Former India captain MS Dhoni was seen lauding his catching skills in a recent event after he caught a water bottle with just one hand ahead of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League, leaving the crowd elated.
During the event, Dhoni asked for water and someone threw a bottle towards him, which he caught without much ado.
Dhoni made his return to the cricket field in the IPL 2025 game between the Chennai Super Kings and arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the former’s home on Sunday, March 23. Watch the viral video here:

The video has got over 7300 likes on X inside 14 hours. Former India cricketer K Srikkanth can be spotted in the background, sitting on a chair as one of the fellow guests at the event.
Dhoni’s lightning-quick reflexes behind the stumps to get rid of Suryakumar Yadav during an IPL game in Chennai have left former Aussie opener Matthew Hayden gushing about the former’s capabilities, despite not being in his prime.
Dhoni, 43, is nearing the end of his career, having hung up his international boots five years ago and playing just as a player for Chennai after leading the franchise to five IPL titles.
Dhoni showed his brilliance once again on Sunday, March 23, when he whipped off the bails in an instant off Noor Ahmad’s ball, sending Suryakumar back to the hut.
“He (Dhoni) was on fire. I mean, Noor Ahmad was firing down the leg side, and it was just a movement across the ball. They’re difficult when you’re sitting there, sort of partially obscured by the batter,” Hayden said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo.
“Then the stumping was just superb, just such quick timing, great hands, good vision. He’s still got it,” Hayden added.
The stumping of Suryakumar (29) was an important moment in the match as Chennai broke a 51-run partnership and restricted Mumbai to 155/9. Chennai chased down the target with four wickets in hand and five deliveries to spare at Chepauk.
“The stumping from MSD (MS Dhoni) was out of the world. It feels great to have someone like Mahi Bhai behind the stumps, it is a great support for me,” Noor said during the post-match presentation.
