India hammered Pakistan in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Men in Blue successfully chased down 242 after they bowled out Pakistan. India's win was powered by ton-up Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya shared five wickets to derail Pakistan. India now have three wins against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy. Batting first, Pakistan made a positive start but lost Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq. A century-plus stand between Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel kept Pakistan afloat. They plunged from 151/2 to 200/7 with India's concerted bowling effort, before having perished for 241. Although India lost Rohit Sharma early, Shubman Gill, Kohli, and Iyer consolidated. Kohli's match-winning boundary also sealed his ton in the 43rd over. As mentioned, India have claimed their third win against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy. Pakistan also own as many wins against India in this regard. Overall, India now enjoy a 11-3 lead over Pakistan in ICC ODI matches. Paradoxically, Pakistan are ahead in terms of overall ODI record, having won 73 games and losing 58 (NR: 5). Like India's Champions Trophy opener, Rohit made another explosive start but fell for a 15-ball 20 (3 fours and 1 six). With his first run against Pakistan, Rohit completed 9,000 runs as opener in ODIs. He is the sixth batter in ODI history to achieve this record, joining Sachin Tendulkar (15,310), Sanath Jayasuriya (12,740), Chris Gayle (10,179), Adam Gilchrist (9,200), and Sourav Ganguly (9,146). India made a power-packed start to their run-chase but lost skipper Rohit in the fifth over. Kohli joined Gill in the middle as the duo kept the scoreboard ticking. The latter launched his counter-attack while Kohli took his time to settle. The latter displayed his endearing cover drives while working the ball in gaps. He raced to his 51st ODI century off 111 balls. During his knock, Kohli also unlocked another significant achievement. With his 15th run, he completed 14,000 of those in ODI cricket. Kohli has become only the third player with this feat, joining Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. Kohli is the fastest to 14,000 ODI runs (299 matches and 287 innings). The Indian batter is miles ahead of Tendulkar (350 innings) and Sangakkara (378 innings). Kohli has created history by becoming India's most successful fielder in ODI cricket. The 36-year-old achieved the milestone with his 157th catch in his 299th ODI, overtaking former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin's record of 156 catches. The legendary Mahela Jayawardene holds the world record with 218 catches from 448 matches. Australia's Ricky Ponting follows him with 160 catches in 375 ODIs. Sheryas Iyer continues his exploits in ODI cricket. He played another match-winning knock, this time while sharing a 114-run stand with Kohli. As has been the case, Iyer was in complete control of his strokes, especially against spinners. Iyer looked set for his ton, but Khushdil Shah ended his bid. The Indian batter smashed a 67-ball 56 (5 fours and 1 six). Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of India's bowlers in the match. He took three wickets for 40 runs in nine overs. The wrist-spinner dismissed Salman Agha, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah. He was also on hat-trick at one stage. By dismissing Agha, Kuldeep completed 300 wickets in international cricket. He is now the 13th Indian bowler and only fifth spinner to achieve this milestone. Hardik Pandya bowled well in the absence of Mohammed Shami, who went off for a while with an injury scare. The former took two wickets for 31 runs in eight overs, dismissing Babar and Imam. With this, he completed 200 wickets in international cricket. He has become only the sixth Indian to score 4,000 runs and take 200 wickets in international cricket. Pakistan skipper Rizwan and Shakeel tried to build a solid partnership after the openers departed. However, they were kept at bay by the Indian bowlers. They had to fight hard for even singles, let alone boundaries. Pandya sent back Shakeel in the 35th over. The Pakistan batter scored a 76-ball 62 (5 fours). This was Shakeel's fourth half-century in ODIs. As per Cricbuzz, Pakistan have the second-highest dot-ball percentage in the first 20 overs in Champions Trophy 2025. They are only behind Afghanistan, who have a percentage of 65.8 in this regard. With two successive wins, against Bangladesh and Pakistan, India have set a foot in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy semi-final. Pakistan, who are in the same table (Pool A) have nearly been eliminated with two defeats.
