Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly recently opened up about the thrilling semi-final match against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Just before the match, Australia lost Matthew Short to injury, and Connolly was selected as an opener with Travis Head. While he fell to Mohammed Shami early on, Connolly initially dropped a catch of Indian captain Rohit Sharma but later dismissed him during the chase. Here's more. Speaking about his debut in such a high-stakes match, Connolly told reporters, As a kid, you always want to represent your country... I'll take a lot of learnings from it. He also acknowledged the skill of seasoned cricketer Mohammed Shami who dismissed him with an impressive out-swinging delivery. Shami is a world-class player for a reason. He's played a lot of cricket, Connolly stated. Before his stint in the ICC Champions Trophy, Connolly made his Test debut for Australia during their tour of Sri Lanka. He described receiving his Baggy Green and playing a game in the prestigious tournament as a dream come true. The young cricketer expressed confidence in his abilities and willingness to improve for future challenges. Connolly stressed that he is looking at the challenges in front of him and not at what lies ahead. It's just about concentrating on what's in front of me at the moment, not looking too far ahead, and just trying to enjoy playing cricket, he said. The young all-rounder wants to improve his bowling and get another opportunity at this level. The all-rounder has scored just 10 runs in four ODIs (three innings). Meanwhile, he has managed 117 runs in 10 List A matches. According to ESPNcricinfo, he averages 14.62 and has a high score of 42. He has smashed 13 fours and three sixes in these innings. He also owns 313 FC runs across seven innings at 52.16.
