Cheltenham Festival 2025 tips: Johnny Ward's best bets and day three acca including Stayers' Hurdle
@Source: standard.co.uk
Susannah Ricci struck with Lossiemouth in Tuesday's mares' hurdles and perhaps Mystical Power can carry her colours to glory at a big price in Thursday's Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle (4.00). Ricci owns the horse along with JP McManus and John Magnier. It is no shock that Mark Walsh abandons the one-much-hyped steed to ride the progressive and consistent The Wallpark. However, the son of Annie Power shaped as a novice hurdler as if he would appreciate this trip. He has bombed this season and clearly needs to find some park but is preferred to the reigning champion Teahupoo. Remarkably, Home By The Lee is having his fourth go at winning the race but does seem in the form of his life this term. The lock of the day goes in the opening Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle (1.20). Sixandahalf has both smart Flat and hurdles form for the hugely talented Gavin Cromwell. Maughreen, who is related to Faugheen, has been quite weak in the market in recent days but is feared for Willie Mullins. The Jack Richards Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (2.00) is yet another new handicap added to the Festival this year. Caldwell Potter, who cost an absolute fortune for Alex Ferguson and his new owners, has been disappointing so far, but will have his supporters. Answer To Kayf, who was placed in the Martin Pipe 12 months ago, was a revelation at Naas last time. The chances are the handicapper will find him out but the mount of John Shinnick looks an each-way play. The Pertemps (2.40) is a bit of a nightmare for punters. A champion amateur jockey, Philip Fenton initially enjoyed great success as a trainer, notably with Dunguib at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival, and he could have his first winner there since with the lightly raced Karl Des Tourelles. Five-year-olds rarely win this race but not many of them run in it and Delta Work took it at that age. The mount of Brian Hayes has had one shot at three miles and impressed in defeat then. The Ryanair (3.20) can go to McManus' Fact To File. He has found Galopin Des Champs an insurmountable problem at Leopardstown but one should not forget he beat him in the John Durkan, he was brilliant at Cheltenham last year and he is hard to oppose, especially with Il Est Francais not guaranteed to give his running on his track debut. In Jagwar, McManus likely has the favourite too in the TrustATrader Plate Handicap Chase (4.40), but Thecompanysergeant is readily preferred. Young Conor Stone-Walsh has impressed since switching to jumps and Gavin Cromwell has not had the eight-year-old very long. Can Ginny's Destiny roll back the years for Paul Nichols from the front? Johnny Who has been heavily backed for McManus in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir (5.20). However, preference here is for Walking On Air, a faller at Doncaster and ridden here by Alan O'Sullivan, brother of the late Michael. What scenes were the pair to prevail for Gary Brown. Selections for day three: 1:20 Sixandahalf (nap) 2:00 Answer To Kayf 2:40 Karl Des Tourelles 3:20 Fact To File 4:00 Mystical Power 4:40 Thecompanysergeant 5:20 Walking On Air Sixandahalf (1.20) and Fact To File (3.20) double
