SYDNEY -- China's rare earth permanent magnet exports rebounded strongly in June, new data shows, but manufacturers in the West still face challenges obtaining shipments of the high-performance components.
Shipments of the powerful magnets, used in everything from smartphones to electric vehicles and weapons, nosedived after Beijing imposed export controls in April in retaliation for punitive tariffs by the U.S. This led to major disruptions for automakers and other manufacturers and made rare earths a major topic in trade disputes between the world's two largest economies.
