CLEVELAND, Ohio – From art to sports, family activities to concerts, there’s a lot going on throughout Northeast Ohio. Check out a hockey game, go to a concert, visit an art museum, sip some wine – there’s plenty to do. Our weekly guide has you covered for events taking place Thursday, March 27, to Wednesday, April 2. Here are 33 events to choose from: Cleveland Monsters The Texas Stars come to town for a late-season faceoff against the Monsters. On view through Saturday, April 26 1300 West 78th St., Suite 200, Cleveland hedgeartgallery.com “Season’s Greetings” Students from Case Western Reserve University’s MFA acting program put on this show from comedic playwright Alan Ayckbourn. The holiday season always brings the unexpected when friends and family gather. That April 2 matchup might be harbinger of what’s to come in the playoffs. It chronicles the recent burgeoning Blu-ray collectible renaissance, the increasing number of specialty distribution labels and the efforts to rescue and restore films. It’s billed as a joyous documentary love letter to cinephilia. Includes Q&A. 5:15 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 Playhouse Square, Upper Allen Theatre, 1407 Euclid Ave., Cleveland clevelandfilm.org (details and discount) History in Their Hands: Black Photographers in Cleveland The exhibit showcases Black photographers from 1968 to present. It’s the inaugural exhibition for the African American History Gallery at Western Reserve Historical Society’s Cleveland History Center. Works from Van Dillard, Gina Gayle, Jimmy Gayle, Amanda D. King, Mychal Lilly and Charles J. Pinkney are presented. Admission: $15, ages 13 to 61. Discounts available. Through Sunday, Aug. 31. Cleveland History Center, 10825 East Blvd., Cleveland Piston Powered Auto-Rama The massive indoor showcase of custom cars, trucks, antique equipment and more is back for its three-day run. More than 800 vehicles will be displayed. A model-car competition also is included. Box-office general admission is $25 (buy tickets at Car Parts Warehouse locations for $17 or online for $20). He’s spinning, you’re munching, all is well. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30 Beachland Tavern, 15711 Waterloo Road, Cleveland MassMu’s Studio M Exhibit - Emily Olszewski: Playdates “Emily Olszewski: Playdates” will feature the work of the Akron artist who draws from pop culture and themes of feminine communication and community. While you’re there check out the permanent and rotating exhibits at MassMu. Free. Through Sunday, April 13 Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E., Massillon Orchids: Love in Bloom Cleveland Botanical Garden’s annual orchid show guides visitors through a world of colorful displays featuring more than 3,000 flowers. It encompasses more than 100 distinct types of orchids. Tickets are $20. Check venue for cover charge. Doors open at 9 p.m. Friday, March 28 House of Blues, Crossroads Stage, 308 Euclid Ave., Cleveland Grand River Valley Ice Wine Festival Six Northeast Ohio wineries and a distillery are celebrating the 22nd annual ice wine festival. Debonné Vineyards, Ferrante Winery & Ristorante, Grand River Cellars, Laurello Vineyards, Cask 307, South River Vineyards and Red Eagle Distillery are all participating in daily tastings. Cost is $10 per winery for wine samples and appetizers. The tour also celebrates the release of a special 30th-anniversary vinyl edition of The Magnetic Fields’ 1992 EP, “The House of Tomorrow.” Tickets for the all-ages show are $44.50 to $75. 7 p.m. (doors), 8 p.m. (show) Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1-2 Agora Cleveland, 5000 Euclid Ave., Cleveland Discover Weekly: Cleveland Rocks Past Present Future Incubator Artists If you consider yourself a music fan hit up B Side for its new incubator artists series. It’s a way to support Greater Cleveland musicians and non-profits. Sunday: Goodmorning Valentine (singer-songwriter Joseph Allen Beltram) and Shortt Stories, an indie trio, will perform. Free. 5 p.m. (doors), 5:30 to 8 p.m. (show) Sunday March 30 B Side Lounge, 2785 Euclid Heights Blvd., Cleveland Ancient Aliens Live The 90-minute live experience celebrates the long-running History Channel program, “Ancient Aliens.” A quartet of enthusiasts (theorist, investigative mythologist, UFO investigator and ancient civilizations expert) dive into extraterrestrial theories. Admission is $42.50 to $62.50. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29 The Knight Stage, 182 S. Main St., Akron Faizon Love Faizon Andre Love (real name: Langston Faizon Santisima) is a Cuban-born American actor, comedian and writer who has appeared in “Elf” and other movies. Tickets are $32.Show times: 7 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.) and 9:30 p.m. (doors at 9 p.m.) Friday, March 28 6:30 (doors at 5:30 p.m.) and 9 p.m. (doors at 8:30) Saturday, March 29 Funny Bone Comedy Club, 1148 Main Ave., Cleveland Jokes on You Host John Bruton and Jimmie Graham host Cleveland’s first crowd work comedy show, which challenges local and visiting comedians to think on their feet by skipping their jokes and make things funny by talking to you. Admission is $10. 7:15 p.m. (doors), 8 p.m. (show) Sunday, March 30 Hilarities 4th Street Theatre, 2035 E. 4th St., Cleveland Joe Brown Band / Late Arrival / Liam Brock Joe Brown, a singer-songwriter-producer from Hudson, draws on classic sounds of Fleetwood Mac and the Beatles, John Mayer, Lizzy McAlpine and others. Also: Add $3 for those under 21. 7 p.m. (doors), 8 p.m. (show) Sunday, March 30 2785 Euclid Heights Blvd., Cleveland Heights “Stardust: An Immersive Music Experience” Cleveland Museum of Natural History is celebrating its grand reopening and renovation with planetarium shows. “Stardust” is a state-of-the-art, 4K-high-definition, 360-degree experience that shows twice daily. It features vocal “loop” artist and music educator Just Alliance (a.k.a. John Allen) who creates an “immersive, ambient soundscape journey” to accompany the visuals live and in real-time. Tickets are $30 (matinee) to $40 (evening show) with $15 for artist meet-and-greet. High St., Akron Love and Death at Casablanca: Murder mystery party Immerse yourself in a murder-mystery as the Music Box Supper Club is turned into the famed Rick’s Café. Dress in your best 1940s outfit for a chance to participate in the show. Tickets are $20 (advance), $25 (at the door). 6 p.m. (doors), 7:30 p.m. (pre-show clue-hunt mingle with the actors), 8 p.m. (show) Friday, March 28 Music Box Supper Club, 1148 Main Ave., Cleveland Cleveland Stories Dinner Parties: Cleveland Guardians Bob DiBiasio of the Cleveland Guardians talks about the team’s past, present and future at this installment of Cleveland Stories Dinner Parties. It will get you primed for the home opener on Tuesday, April 8. Free, reservation required. 5 p.m. (doors), 7 p.m. (show) Wednesday, April 2 Music Box Supper Club, 1148 Main Ave., Cleveland The progressive reading activity begins at Barnes & Noble, where you read the first page of Bill Cotter’s “Don’t Push the Button! An Easter Surprise.” Then you dance, spin and jump your way through the shopping-dining-lifestyle center to read subsequent pages. Free. Crocker Park, Westlake (Barnes & Noble is at 198 Crocker Park Blvd.) The Local 4 Music Fund presents an afternoon of chamber music by female composers. It features composer Elizabeth Start, Black Squirrel Winds ensemble and pianist Elizabeth DeMio. Free. Note: The performance also will be livestreamed on Bop Stop’s YouTube Channel. Accessing is free; donations are encouraged. 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 30 Bop Stop, 2920 Detroit Ave., Cleveland Are you Down with the Sickness? Disturbed’s The Sickness 25th anniversary tour hits Cleveland with guests Daughtry and Nothingmore. Disturbed will play the entire Sickness album. Prices vary. Simpson: “Strata” The artist envisioned a site-specific project for the museum’s light-filled atrium titled “Strata.” Strata is inspired by her time spent in Cleveland, bringing the city and the background in her ancestral homelands of Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, to her work. Strata comprises two monumental figural sculptures constructed from clay, in addition to metalwork, porous concrete, and cast bronze. Free. Through Sunday, April 13 Cleveland Museum of Art, Ames Family Atrium, 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland clevelandart.org April Fools’ Scavenger Hunt Take the family out on the trail for an April Fools’ Day scavenger hunt. The flat terrain covers about a quarter mile. Free. 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 Brecksville Nature Center, Brecksville Reservation, 9000 Chippewa Road, Brecksville Mary J. Blige MJB plays Cleveland as part of nine shows on the “For My Fans” tour. Special guests Ne-Yo and Mario.X join the Grammy- and Emmy Award-winning performer. Ticket prices vary. 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 One Center Court, Cleveland Fish fry season It’s fish fry season at many non-profits across Northeast Ohio. Churches, VFW halls and other places are hosting dinners featuring everything from perch to pierogies. Times and dates vary based on location, but the churches and groups are located from Amherst to Willoughby. Winery co-owner Ed Kuchar will help guide the six-course tasting dinner that features the California winery. Kuchar is one of six people from three couples in Northeast Ohio who are proprietors of the winery. Cost is $140.
