Plans for a new hotel across from McCurdy Corner shopping centre have been submitted to the City of Kelowna.
Urban Options Planning Corp. has applied, on behalf of Hyatt, for a development permit and a development variance permit for a six-storey hotel at 2800 Highway 97 N. It would be located on the northwest corner of Highway 97 and McCurdy Road, just south of Scandia Golf and Games.
The hotel would feature 125 rooms. It would be branded as a Hyatt House, and it would be only the second in Canada after the one in Winnipeg.
“This proposal generates an excellent opportunity for tourism with the Okanagan Rail Trail located directly behind the hotel,” Urban Options wrote in its application letter. “Therefore, hotel guests have access to Downtown Kelowna in less than half an hour via the Rail Trail, often faster than travelling by vehicle.”
The applicant wrote the new hotel would meet several objectives set forth by the City of Kelowna, including targeting growth along transit corridors, strengthening Kelowna as the region’s economic hub and prioritizing sustainable transportation and shared mobility.
The plans call for 127 parking stalls, including three accessible and one van accessible spots. Seventy-eight of the stalls would be underground.
