The first ever international conference exclusively dedicated to the field of climate accounting will be held in Fiji this month, hosted by the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) and the Asia-Pacific Applied Economics Association (APAEA).
This positions FICA and APAEA at the forefront of the crucial conversation about the profound impacts of climate change that necessitate a comprehensive understanding of its financial implications.
According to a media release from the host organisations the conference has garnered substantial interest from esteemed sponsors who recognise the importance of this initiative.
“We are proud to acknowledge the British High Commission, the Asian Development Bank, Vodafone, and the Reserve Bank of Fiji as our esteemed sponsors.
“Their support underscores the global appeal and relevance of the conference, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to these forward-thinking organisations.”
The full-day conference is set to feature four panel discussions addressing climate accounting themes critical to business survival and consumer welfare, and three plenary speeches from experts with high-profile backgrounds.
FICA president Rajeshwar Singh said, “This conference marks a pivotal moment in our efforts to address the financial dimensions of climate change. FICA is committed to driving positive change in this critical area, and we are excited to join forces with APAEA to make this inaugural conference a resounding success.”
APAEA president Professor Paresh Narayan added, “The Asia-Pacific region is at the forefront of climate challenges, and economic perspectives are integral to finding sustainable solutions.
“We are delighted to collaborate with FICA on this conference and bring together experts from various fields to advance our understanding of climate accounting.”
The International Conference on Climate Accounting is scheduled to take place on September 22, 2023, at the Fiji National University’s Nasinu Campus, and promises to be a full day of enlightenment and exploration into the critical issues of climate change and climate accounting.
