More Champions of the Premier League for the 2024/25 Season following the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Crystal Palace FC at Anfield on May 25, 2025 in Liverpool, England. Liverpool FC via Getty Images Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that both Barcelona and Al Nassr of the Saudi Pro League have named Liverpool and Colombia forward Luis Díaz as a transfer target this summer. A Successful Season for Luis Díaz at Anfield Averaging a goal every 180 minutes of playing time this season; it has been Díaz’s most potent in Liverpool red. The Colombian has achieved these numbers whilst rotating significantly between the starting XI and the bench, as well as the left wing and the more central ‘false nine’ position. This comes off the back of a sublime summer of 2024 with Colombia too, as ‘Lucho’ led his national team to the Copa America final, only to face defeat to Argentina in extra-time. Díaz has also helped his national team to the brink of FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification over the course of this season. Colombia could confirm qualification its spot this June and that would mean a first ever World Cup appearance for the 28 year-old. Liverpool won the Premier League this season, undoubtedly the biggest success of Díaz’s career. His level of performance and adaptability proved absolutely key for Arne Slot’s side and his ability to link up with the likes of Mohamed Salah helped the Reds to storm towards a 20th league title. There have often been rumours of Saudi clubs showing interest in Luis Díaz, and of course this interest comes with the temptation of huge wage packets, but surely Díaz has enough quality and years in his relatively young legs to continue enjoying the top level of European soccer instead. Obviously Saudi Arabia would present Lucho with the biggest offer financially, but it will be interesting to see if that is enough to tempt him away from Anfield. Barcelona has long been an admirer of the Colombian winger, and would certainly provide the latin star with some overdue sunshine. Many South American players are tempted by the big Spanish clubs because of the lifestyle on the Mediterranean and the obvious fact that they would be living in a Spanish speaking country. However FC Barcelona is currently home to Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, perhaps two of the best footballers on the planet this year. Given that they operate on the left and right flanks where would Lucho fit into this system? Or would he make the move to Barcelona just to be a player that comes off the bench or at times plays as a striker? It doesn’t seem to make sense for the player or the club given that ‘FCB’ could do with strengthening in other areas and already boasts a fine attack with Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres in the mix. Díaz has made himself comfortable at Liverpool and he can be a big player for the Reds as the club chases European and domestic glory again next season. He is adored by the fans and is part of a fine dressing room atmosphere alongside other South American teammates like Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson Becker. AFP via Getty Images The Colombian recently enjoyed a trophy parade in front of hundreds of thousands in Liverpool city centre and the club has already shown its intention to add to the squad and compete again next season. It makes you wonder. Surely Lucho is exactly where he needs to be? Crucially, there is one year to go until the FIFA 2026 World Cup. This will be the proudest moment of Díaz’s career and the idea of any instability, bad vibes or sitting on the Barcelona bench until then just doesn’t make sense. Time will tell what happens regarding Díaz’s future, but at just 28 Díaz seems to be in the perfect team to enter his prime years with.
