Comedian's gig axed after 'disgraceful' comment about Liverpool parade crash
@Source: dailystar.co.uk
A comic's gig got the chop after he made a sick joke about the smash that left scores hurt following Liverpool FC's victory lap . After the Reds' bus tour celebrating their Premier League triumph, chaos ensued when a car veered into a crowd on Water Street Monday night, leaving at least 65 people injured . Cops arrested a white British man , aged 53, from West Derby under suspicion of attempted murder and other offences tied to reckless driving and drug impairment. Afterwards, comedian Andrew Lawrence caused uproar with his message on X, sent at 2.33pm on Tuesday, which read: "To be fair, if I was in Liverpool, I'd drive through crowds of people to get the f*** out of there as well." Lawrence, who claims the mantle of "comedian on YouTube" on his X profile, boasts on his own website that he stands among the most acclaimed live comedians in Blighty. But his post didn't go down well, naturally. Barry Sloane, an actor from Garston, blasted him on X: "You absolute disgrace," reports the Liverpool Echo . Adding to it, Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance CIC said: "A comedian really? You're an embarrassment to the profession." James Pearce, The Athletic's Liverpool FC reporter, chimed in as well: "Horrific. You're a disgrace." Another X user said: "'Comedian' is doing some outrageously heavy lifting in that bio." The post has sparked controversy leading to a scheduled performance at an Essex crazy golf course's comedy club being scrapped. After receiving complaints about the contentious comment, the venue was bombarded with concerns. Caddies Southend announced on X earlier today just before 7am: "The event organisers who had hired our Comedy Club for the Andrew Lawrence night, have cancelled the event. "We do not condone or support the comment that has been made online, and we send everyone impacted by the tragic events in Liverpool our support and prayers." In response, Mr Lawrence, who was a finalist in the 2003 So You Think You're Funny competition, accused the venue of lacking "courage". He vented his frustration in a post: "This venue lost their courage after being bombarded with abuse and threats of violence from online trolls. "Understandable, but disappointing. I will reschedule for later in the year at a different venue Southend, sorry for the inconvenience, have a great day." Only those followed by him could reply as he restricted responses to his statement, although others were still able to quote tweet with remarks. Colm Brady criticised: "Disgusting. Violence was not used, read their email response. They do not condone your vile tweets." Ramsey Campbell, a horror author from Wallasey commented wryly: "Oh, I think they had the courage of their convictions." Want all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox?
