Conor McGregor has cast doubt on his UFC return despite expressing his desire to compete at the promotion's planned White House event next year. Earlier this month, US president Donald Trump stunned the MMA world after he unveiled his audacious plan to stage a UFC event at the White House, Washington . "And I even think we're going to have a UFC fight... Does anybody watch UFC and the great Dana White?' Trump asked the crowd of MAGA faithful. "We're going to have a UFC fight. We're going to have a UFC fight," Trump continued. "Think of this - on the grounds of the White House. "We have a lot of land there. We're going to build a little - we're not, Dana's going to do it, Dana's great, one of a kind - we're going to have a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20-25,000 people." Just hours after the news, McGregor hinted at making his UFC return for the event after exchanging messages with Dana White . However, UFC fans have been handed a major blow after McGregor informed White exactly what he needs to do in order to make his return official. The 37-year-old ha revealed he will only make a comeback providing his teammate, Lee Hammond, features on the card. Hammond - who suffered the first defeat of his MMA career last year - took to Instagram to wish McGregor a happy birthday on Monday. He wrote in Irish: “Happy birthday brother." Following the 29-year-old's comment, McGregor then called for White to sign his good friend to the UFC. The pair are teammates at SBG Ireland and Crumlin Boxing Club. “MAC MANSION. VEGAS. 2015. I’M BACK WHEN LEE IS SIGNED. ONLY," said McGregor. The former dual-weight UFC champion then tagged the UFC president and added a hashtag referring to Crumlin Boxing Club. Over the last few months, McGregor has ramped up training amid talks of a potential return to the octagon. After showing interest in competing at the historic White House event next year, there is a slight possibility that fans may get to witness the 'Notorious' grace the cage one last time. That said, many have simply lost interest. "We don't care. There're only so many times you can fake a comeback," said one fan. Another user quipped: "Conor's seasonal workout video to make everyone talk about his comeback." A third delivered a harsh verdict, writing: "No one cares." Another added: "That's good for him doesn't do anything for fans because he ain't fighting," whilst a fifth remarked: "He's not coming back." McGregor has not fought since 2021 when he lost to long-time rival Dustin Poirier . As of yet, there is no sign of his return. He was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler last year, but was forced to pull out of the contest after suffering an injury in training . His last win inside the cage came back in 2020 - a first-round knockout victory over Donald Cerrone . At a recent press conference for Bare Knuckle FC, where he holds co-ownership, the Dublin native made an exhilarating announcement, confirming his plans to fight on the White House card next year, saying: "It's looking like I'm headed to the Oval Office again. That's where I'm headed next."
