The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court directed the State to consider the representation made by a petitioner who sought a direction to the government to ensure that healthcare facilities are in place at the Primary Health Centre in Othakadai in Madurai.
The court was hearing the public interest litigation petition filed by N. Abdul Rahman Jalal of Madurai who sought a direction to the authorities to depute two doctors and four nurses to the PHC. He also sought a direction to the authorities to fill the post of Health Inspector and ensure healthcare facilities are in place at the PHC.
The petitioner said he had made a representation to the authorities. However, no steps had been taken so far, he said.
A Division Bench of Justices A.D. Jagadish Chandira and R. Poornima directed the State to consider the representation made by the petitioner in eight weeks and disposed of the petition.
