Cavan 0-10 Cork are through to the 2025 ZuCar All-Ireland LGFA minor A Championship final following an 11-point victory over reigning champions Cavan at a sun-kissed Banagher, county Offaly, on Thursday evening. Kieran O’Shea’s side, who netted five goals en route to defeating Kerry in this year’s provincial decider, were full value for their semi-final win. Goals proved crucial once again for an attack-minded Rebels team as Aoibhe Sheehan and Laura Walsh green flags handed the Rebels a six-point interval lead. Ava McAuliffe’s second half goal allied with a terrific defensive effort saw Cork run out convincing winners. This was a sweet victory for many of the Cork players who lost a U16 All-Ireland final to Cavan two years ago. Dublin will be the Rebels’ opponents in this year’s minor A decider which takes place in a fortnight’s time. Hot and humid conditions greeted the teams at throw-in despite the 7:30pm start time. Cork settled quickly and were 0-4 to 0-1 ahead thanks to Kate Carey (two), Laura Walsh and Éabha O’Donovan efforts, all inside 8 minutes. Holly McPhillips opened Cavan’s account before Kate Fegan further reduced the deficit. Then, the Rebels’ attacking prowess came to the fore with two goals in as many minutes, rocking Cavan’s confidence just shy of the quarter hour. First, Kate Carey setup Aoibhe Sheehan for the Douglas player to brilliantly find the top corner. An Ella Sheridan point couldn’t halt a rampant Cork as Mourneabbey’s Laura Walsh raised another green flag to make it 2-4 to 0-3. An Éabha O’Donovan free preceded a welcome water break before Cavan finished the first half strongly. Three Ella Sheridan frees and a Kate O’Meara point made it 2-7 to 0-7 following another O’Donovan score. Any hopes of a Cavan comeback were quickly extinguished when Laura Walsh and Saoirse Cunningham points preceded a superb Ava McAuliffe goal 5 minutes into the second period. Cavan rallied as Ella Sheridan’s frees plus an Isabella Hall shot that flew inches over the crossbar made it 3-10 to 0-10 heading into the closing stages. It was never going to be enough however, as Éabha O’Donovan and Saoirse Cunningham points sealed Cork’s impressive victory and setup a showdown with Dublin.
