Cork Player Ratings as ruthless Rebels dismantle Dublin in All-Ireland semi-final
@Source: echolive.ie
PATRICK COLLINS: Bar two wayward puckouts, he was outstanding. Finished with four direct assists, saved two late frees, and pulled off an outrageous 20th-minute stop to deny Fergal Whitely a goal. Another top display in an excellent season. 8 NIALL O’LEARY: Did very well throughout. Kept Seán Currie scoreless from play and did well again when he picked up Riain McBride in the second half. A big presence Cork had sorely missed. 8 EOIN DOWNEY: Calm, composed, and dominant in the air. Reacted brilliantly to mop up after Collins’ save and continues to own the full-back role with authority. 7 SEÁN O’DONOGHUE: Cork’s standout defender once again. Brilliant reading of the game, racking up blocks, interceptions, and pinpoint passes. His long ball created goal number four, then another turnover led to Cork’s seventh. Immense. 9 CIARÁN JOYCE: Denied Dublin multiple scoring chances and capped it with a point of his own. Also delivered the ball that led to Cork’s second goal. Consistently excellent. 8 ROBERT DOWNEY: Caught for Dublin’s second goal and conceded the free, but otherwise solid once again. Replaced by Tommy O’Connell after a knock – a sensible precaution. 7 MARK COLEMAN: The unsung hero. Orchestrated Cork’s setup on Dublin’s puckouts, linked play superbly, and defended ferociously late on to dispossess Currie. Smart, effective, and tireless. 9 TIM O’MAHONY: Exceptional in midfield. Scored 2-1, including a brilliant finish for Cork’s sixth goal. Constantly involved – assisting, tackling, turning over ball. Far more than just the goals. 9 DARRAGH FITZGIBBON: Another all-action display. Scored 0-3 from play, assisted another, and was always available to link play. Brings balance to Cork’s midfield. 8 DIARMUID HEALY: Still early in his senior career but another lively outing. Assisted a point, played a key pre-assist role in the third goal, and took his own score brilliantly after a sharp catch. 8 SHANE BARRETT: Subbed after 63 minutes with four missed efforts, but his work rate was never lacking. Had a big hook early on and provided an assist. Just didn’t click in front of goal. 7 DECLAN DALTON: What a way to return. One wide, scored 0-5. Won two frees he converted himself, the first one from at least 80 metres out. Dalton also assisted the first goal and a point. Worked so hard off the ball too, forcing a great interception in the first half. 8 PATRICK HORGAN: The trademark consistency we’re so used to seeing from Hoggy. 0-8, two from play, three frees he was fouled for that he converted. He was hugely involved in two of Cork’s seven goals; first the beautiful flick to Connolly for the fourth goal, then the clever turn and go to set up O’Mahony for goal five. Only one wide. 8 ALAN CONNOLLY: His best championship performance for Cork. A hat-trick that showcased his full range – particularly the second goal, where his control was superb. Also assisted a goal and added two points from play. 10 BRIAN HAYES: Another superb performance; he’s been so consistent all season. 2-1 and was hugely involved in two further goals. Reliable, composed relentless. Making a habit of turning the heat up when Cork play in semi-finals. 9 ROBBIE O’FLYNN: Replaced Healy and made a real impact, carrying the ball well and doing all the work for goal number seven. 7 SHANE KINGSTON: Came on for Horgan and quickly hit 0-2. Yet again, he delivered exactly what was needed off the bench. 8 TOMMY O’CONNELL: On for Rob Downey with 11 minutes to go and worked hard late on as Dublin chased goals. His energy helped steady Cork. 7 CONOR LEHANE: Came on for Barrett, immediately assisted Kingston, and then popped over a score of his own. Sharply effective. One of many brilliant performers off the bench. 8 JACK O’CONNOR: Last to enter but still got on the scoresheet after a great delivery from Collins. Covered plenty of ground. 7
