Cork v Louth: Unchanged starting 15 for Rebels as Brian Hurley back on bench
@Source: echolive.ie
Cork manager John Cleary has made no changes to the starting fifteen which lost heavily to Roscommon two weeks ago at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh for Sunday’s penultimate Allianz Division 2 football league clash with Louth at 2pm.
The Rebels come into this one down the Páirc looking to respond after the 14-point drubbing by the Rossies as the Leesiders now look to avoid relegation.
The beating a fortnight ago was the Rebels heaviest defeat under Cleary's tenure and also the heaviest loss for the team in four years.
Cork are third from bottom, two points above Down, but the Ulster side have the upper hand if it comes to the head-to-head rule. Cork have four points from their five games.
While there are no changes to the starting team at the moment, there are a couple of changes on the bench. Brian Hurley has recovered from injury that saw him miss out completely in the last two matches as he replaces Cathal Maguire on the bench while Jacob O’Driscoll is among the reserves as he comes in for the injured Seán Powter.
Cork have used the two-week gap wisely, during which time they went over to the exclusive Quinta do Lago resort on the Algarve. It’s one of the best facilities in Europe, which has been used by many top sports teams in recent years including the Irish rugby squad and the Portugal soccer team.
Cork were also there last year and the group did initially have a spring in their step when they came back, beating Meath away and drawing at home to the eventual All-Ireland winners Armagh as the Rebels finished fourth in the league.
Expectations were high ahead of this campaign, but after two losses on the trot to Monaghan and then Roscommon, the aim of promotion quickly evaporated.
Louth aren’t exactly on top of their game either. Ger Brennan’s side are level on points with Cork.
The bottom two, Down and pointless Westmeath lock horns on Saturday evening, so the picture will become clearer after that.
