Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd reveals 'near miss' filming horror crash stunt as he addresses exit fib

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has been discussing his latest dramatic stunt on the show before addressing a fib he told on live TV about his character's fate. Fans were recently left worried that the actor's character David Platt would die in the ITV soap after he attempted to orchestrate his own death, thinking it would save his own family. The hairdresser has been in despair ever since it became clear that his and his family were being targeted by gangster Harvey Gasklell from behind bars for stealing money which belonged to him, in order to buy his family home from his mum, Gail Platt. Before making the heartbreaking decision to end his own life, David was confronted by former prison mate Andy Garland, who he had been doing criminal jobs for, when he pulled out a knife and said Harvey wanted him dead for his life insurance payout. David, who had earlier been in court where his stepson Max Turner was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for arson after he set alight No.8 Coronation Street in a botched insurance job, managed to see Andy off without causing any damage. After taking some time to think, David called Andy back to the salon and asked him to take his life as it was the only way to keep his family safe, before planning for Andy to run him over with a car in the middle of the Street at 2pm the following day. When the final moments began, David stood in the middle of the road. A car then came hurtling at speed, and Shona watched in horror as David was ploughed into, with Daisy Midgeley caught in the crossfire, and she has since lost her unborn child. Speaking about David's frame of mind at the time, Jack told the Manchester Evening News: "He has been low before, but I'm not sure he has actually been suicidal," observes Jack. "This is a suicide but it has to look like an accident." Jack, however, is more than happy to have stunts in his storylines. "I always push the limits," he admitted. On the recent fire that engulfed the Platt family home, the soap star said: "They said action, and of course I went past the safety line... But I'm safe, there are lots of people with extinguishers." But there was also a slight change made to Jack's most recent stunt with the car. He said: "We had a near-miss because I wasn't paying attention," Jack shared. "There was a car coming, and we added it into the scene. I was looking a different way and it nearly hit me." Ahead of the dramatic episodes playing out, Jack appeared live on This Morning and as he was asked about his time in Weatherfield ahead of a milestone, the 37-year-old said: "Twenty-five years – its a long time. I think it’s about 25 years next month, it would have been nice to kind of reach that milestone but sadly it’s tonight, it’s the end. But I’ve loved every minute of it." When asked if the episode in question was the actual end for his character, he added: “Yeah, I can’t believe we’ve managed to keep it out for so long but I think everyone will enjoy it." Afterwards, This Morning’s soap expert Sharon Marshall asked: "Has he just given us a massive bombshell?” to which presenter Ben Shephard replied: "I think he might have." Now, Jack has revealed he just said that to keep it interesting. During the latest episode of the On the Sofa podcast that he hosts with Corrie co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Shephard, which was recorded during their 'one night only' live show in Leeds last week, the soap star is heard saying he was asked to appear on the show to "drum up support" for the episode. He went on to reveal: “I thought I’d be a little bit devious. When they were saying, ‘will David die, won’t David die blah blah blah’, I’m supposed to say, 'Who knows, who knows', but I thought that was a bit s***. So I just thought I would go, 'yeah'..."
