Labasa Town Council acting chief executive officer (CEO) Mohammed Faiz Ali’s suspension has been revoked, allowing him to return to work today (Friday).
However, he will not return as acting CEO.
The Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, confirmed that the suspension was revoked after his meeting with the council special administrators Paul Jaduram, Edwin Chand, Samuela Ligairi and senior officers at the council chamber in Labasa yesterday.
Mr Ali was suspended on Monday, pending an investigation.
“We had a meeting with the special administrators to establish what happened and to check whether due process was followed or not,” Mr Nalumisa said.
“Something that we discussed at great length and decided unanimously that we are going to revoke the suspension because a proper procedure was not followed.”
He said the decision was to ensure good governance, transparency and accountability.
Regarding the allegation put forward against the former acting CEO including a financial breach of $1.2 million, he said: “there would be an investigation after the confirmation of allegations from all the administrators.”
He said a team from the ministry would be appointed to investigate to ensure things were conducted fairly and enough time be given to the former acting CEO to respond.
