The blame game on the double booking at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva has begun.
This was after the Fiji Football Association threatened to seek legal action against the Fiji Sports Council if the matter is not resolved.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf told SUNsports that they had secured the venue from July 5-19 for the OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) Women’s Nations Cup.
He confirmed that they made the bookings with full payment done last November.
However, the Fiji Rugby Union confirmed on April 2, that they will host the Scotland Test match at the same venue on July 12.
Questions sent to the Fiji Sports Council on February 9 and April 16 remained unanswered.
However, SUNsports managed to get Fiji Sports Council chairman and interim chief executive officer Ratu Gilbert Vakalalabure yesterday.
Ratu Gilbert was angry when questioned about the double booking incident and questioned why SUNsports had to contact him regarding the matter. “Why have you called me? Deal with the booking people first, get a response from them,” he said angrily.
Ratu Gilbert indicated that Team Leader events and booking Lenaitasi Vakatora should be asked instead of him.
When contacted Vakatora said he has no authority to comment on the matter.
Yusuf reiterated to SUNsports that they are firm with their decision and would not accommodate the July 12 rugby match.
He added that Fiji could be banned by FIFA and OFC from hosting international and regional events if the rugby match is given a green light and they cannot afford the consequences.
