A Gwent couple has launched a motocross venture for children.
Ross and Emily Pottenger, the husband and wife team behind Kiddiecross, have expanded their business to include a new retail arm.
Kiddiecross, which provides balance and e-bike tuition to young cyclists, was started by the couple when they struggled to find group classes for their young son outside the usual football, rugby, and swimming classes.
After nearly two years of research and planning, they launched the venture in Newport in August last year.
The success of their classes led to the launch of a retail arm, supported by a £25,000 start-up loan from the British Business Bank.
This investment has allowed them to purchase a fleet of 50 e-bikes.
Mr Pottenger said: "We thought there must be a market for group classes in an untapped area; parents without any motocross background who aren’t generally aware of electric balance bikes until they see children up and riding what is effectively a motorbike."
The couple teach children to ride the bikes, starting with balance bikes and gradually transitioning to e-bikes.
They also run courses in local nurseries and regular sessions at Newport Velodrome and Cwmbran Stadium.
Mr Pottenger said: "The business has really taken off and we had so many enquiries from parents interested in buying bikes for their children, that we could have sold them hundreds of times over."
With plans to expand the retail arm of the business, the couple are looking to extend their franchises across Wales and into England.
