Controversy has struck the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships, being played at the Barbados Golf Club in Durants, Christ Church.
A court injunction has been filed against the Barbados men’s team, and they can no longer take part in the tournament, which is into its third day.
The issue surrounds player Maurice Forde, who is contesting his non-selection after what he contends was a successful qualification process.
In a memo circulated by the Barbados Golf Association, a restraining order issued by the court yesterday has legally barred the Barbados men’s team from further participation in the Caribbean Championships.
An appeal has been made by the BGA to have the order nullified, but this has been rejected by the court.
Any further participation in the event by team members may be considered contempt of court, which carries serious consequences, including fines or even imprisonment.
The BGA says it will continue to explore all possible avenues to resolve this matter.
