Hyderabad:With Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) failing to promote cricket in the districts, and sharing details of the activity on the website, Telangana district cricket associations have asked the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) to allow three separate cricketing bodies in the state.Though the BCCI had provided Rs 200 crore to HCA in the last two years, the HCA bosses did not spend even 0.1 per cent of the money in the districts. They used the funds to protect their own interests in Hyderabad. In the last two AGM meetings, the HCA had resolved to spend at least 25 per cent in the districts, but not a paisa was spent in the districts,” alleged V. Agam Rao, the president of the Karimnagar District Cricket Association. The HCA, which faces charges of deep-rooted corruption, mismanagement and power politics, failed to construct a single turf ground or stadium and other cricketing infrastructure in the districts. The HCA’s coaching academy – Hyderabad Cricket Academy of Excellence (HCAE) — and cricket professionals expressed displeasure over the HCA ignoring the districts and ignoring the dominance of Hyderabad-based clubs which enjoy voting powers. In a strongly worded letter recently, HCAE director Vijay Mohan Raj criticised the HCA for not engaging coaches for refresher and orientation programmes before organising the summer camps in the districts under pressure from the BCCI.Following several complaints lodged with the BCCI, Agam Rao said the national cricket administrator had directed the HCA in 2018, 2021 and in again 2022 to work transparently to promote cricket in the districts and upload details of the activity on the website. It also directed the HCA to submit its activity report in the districts to the BCCI every six months.Agam Rao said the BCCI had asked HCA to have at least one member from each of the 32 districts inducted in the association as against the current norm of eight members representing all the districts. He said the players from the districts hardly got an opportunity to perform and make into the state teams as they were never provided professional coaching or allowed to participate in tournaments. Many potential players were forced to move to the city to get coaching in private city clubs in the HCA leagues by incurring extremely high fees and facing hardships, Agam Rao said.Citing Maharashtra and Gujarat, which have three cricket bodies each affiliated with the BCCI, Telangana District Cricket Association (TDCA) founder president Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy demanded that the BCCI constitute another cricket board for Telangana districts.Hyderabad is represented by 210 cricket clubs in the HCA, while the rest of districts are left with only eight clubs.Venkateshwar Reddy said the HCA extended all favours to 210 clubs as they are engaged in the HCA elections, but the rest of the districts were ignored. “Not a single stadium was developed in the districts for cricket coaching.”“If HCA claims to represent the districts, why did it fail to construct a single stadium in the districts? The Andhra Cricket Association developed good infrastructure in Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Kadapa, among others. A majority of cricket clubs in Hyderabad are handled by four or five people and this is the main reason for the plight of cricket in the districts,” Venkateshwar Reddy said.To protect Telangana beyond Hyderabad, the cricket professionals demanded that the BCCI disband the HCA and set up two separate cricket boards to represent Hyderabad and districts separately.
