Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has announced it will hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) today at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal. Acting president Sardar Daljeet Singh said the meeting was convened to discuss and consider amendments to the association’s rules, regulations and bye-laws.The decision was formally approved during the Apex Council meeting on August 8. In his notice, Singh urged all affiliated members to attend. The SGM gains significance as it follows the arrest of three senior office-bearers by the CID in connection with alleged corruption in IPL ticket sales.However, the decision to proceed with the SGM has drawn sharp criticism from former cricketers, professionals and past administrators of the HCA. Many questioned the timing, legality and moral grounding of the move. They asked how such a meeting could be convened when issues around the adjourned Annual General Meeting (AGM) remain unresolved. Some also pointed out that the current Apex Council may not have the quorum to call the SGM, casting doubt on its authority.Another concern was whether the 57 suspended member clubs would be invited to participate and on what grounds. Critics argued that excluding members would undermine transparency and legitimacy in amending the bye-laws.Moral questions have also been raised, with several asking about the standing of an Apex Council that still faces corruption allegations, including against the joint secretary. Allowing members under suspicion to alter the bye-laws, they warned, could be used to shield individuals rather than strengthen governance.The powers of the acting president have also come under scrutiny, with administrators questioning whether a caretaker leader can push through sweeping changes in the association’s structure. Members of the cricketing fraternity cautioned against what they described as a hurried and questionable exercise in altering the HCA’s foundational rules.
