Cristiano Ronaldo Man United transfer green light claim as Sir Alex Ferguson message emerges
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Manchester United will be busy preparing for a crucial stretch of the season as Ruben Amorim's team eye an unlikely return to the Champions League.
To do so, they must reach and win the Europa League final on May 21 in Bilbao. Amorim's side face Ligue 1 side Lyon in the quarter-finals next month, and their full focus is likely to now be on the European competition.
United are next in action on Tuesday evening away at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League (8pm kick-off) as they look to build on some of the positive momentum built before the March international break. The Reds will then entertain Manchester City in the Manchester derby a week later before facing Lyon.
Below are some of the latest headlines around United and a view on each one...
Ronaldo green light
Sporting Lisbon winger Francisco Trincao has reportedly received advice from Cristiano Ronaldo to move to United this summer.
United in Focus claim that Ronaldo and several current Reds players, including Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, have advised the former Wolves attacker to join Amorim's men. The ex-Barcelona star is thought to be valued at £30million and recent reports claim that the Reds are showing interest.
Isaac Seelochan of The Manchester Evening News says: "Trincao struggled badly at Wolves but his performances at Sporting will have caught the attention. The Portuguese has scored 32 goals in 143 appearances for Amorim's former club.
"However, succeeding in Portugal's top-flight should offer no clear indication that he will be able to transform that back to the Premier League. It's a transfer the Reds should exercise caution over."
Sir Alex message
Former United player Danny Welbeck has revealed a message received from Sir Alex Ferguson after his goal for Brighton against Newcastle earlier this month.
"[Sir Alex Ferguson] actually phoned me after the Newcastle goal," Welbeck told The BBC. "He talked about the goal and the performance.
"He was buzzing and to have that sort of connection, he is a manager who is always looking out for his players, always wants the best for them, and still to this day is in contact."
Isaac Seelochan of The Manchester Evening News says: "This just shows what a close bond Sir Alex had with his players and why they were so successful under him.
"Welbeck is not the only player the legendary former United boss still keeps in contact with, and it's great to see that he still follows his old charges even at clubs outside of the Reds."
