CT 2025 Final To Played On Dubai Pitch Used For India-Pakistan Game: Report
@Source: news18.com
The 2025 Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium will be played on the pitch used for the group stage clash between the Men in Blue and rivals Pakistan last weekend, according to a report in Cricbuzz. Like other pitches in the competition so far, it is expected to be slow with substantial help for the spinners on both sides. India comfortably beat Pakistan in that match. The Mohammad Rizwan-led Men in Green opted to bat first after winning the toss and could only score 241 runs, losing all 10 wickets in 49.4 overs. India’s three spinners combined to take five wickets while Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana took two and one, respectively. In reply, India got off to a quick start, courtesy of a 31-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Both openers got out without scoring their half-centuries but Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100 (111) and a half-century from Shreyas Iyer led India to chase the target with six wickets and over seven overs to spare. For Pakistan, spinners Abrar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah took one wicket each and Shaheen Afridi got two. Neither India nor New Zealand should mind the slow tracks, though the former won easily when they came across each other in the final league-stage game of Group A on a sluggish 22 yards. Moreover, India played three spinners against Pakistan but since have also added the in-form Varun Chakaravarthy to the mix in place of Rana, with the Kolkata Knight Riders ace shining with seven wickets in two matches. The Black Caps, meanwhile, have the services of Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell — both have been among the wickets in this tournament — with the added option of part-timer Glenn Phillips. According to a recent report in PTI, Indian batters spent a lot of time facing spin in the net session ahead of Sunday’s final. “Our batters can adjust on any surface. So that is the key. I think we can adjust to the wicket and obviously, if it is a 350 runs kind of wicket, we might go a little hard, obviously, as there will be pace on the wicket and ball comes on,” Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak was quoted as saying by the news agency. “But on this kind of a wicket (at the DICS), you try and rotate the strike, and you try to take the game deep and then, try to finish the game if you are chasing or try and set the biggest possible target. I think we have done that pretty well,” he added. For more in-depth coverage of the Champions Trophy, check out the latest Points Table to see where your favorite team stands.
