The Air Customs wing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has reported to have arrested two youths hailing from Malappuram for allegedly smuggling around 10kg of hybrid ganja from Bangkok.
The accused duo, whose identities were yet to be divulged, are students, aged 21 and 23 years, who pursue studies in nursing and fashion technology. They were nabbed soon after their arrival on a Scoot flight that arrived from Singapore in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday night. Their travel history revealed a recent visit to Bangkok.
The contraband, which was found concealed in multiple packets within their luggage, is estimated to be worth nearly ₹10 crore in the illicit market. They were apparently intercepted soon after they retrieved their luggage and were preparing to exit the airport.
A comprehensive probe is underway to identify the other persons involved in the racket. The seizure is reported to be among the highest from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in recent history.
