Danny Dyer was over the moon to receive a coveted BAFTA Award this past Sunday; yet, host Alan Cumming found himself apologising for the star's rule-breaking conduct. The elated actor nabbed the BAFTA for Best Male Performance in a Comedy for his role in the Sky Comedy series Mr Bigstuff, and he couldn't contain his excitement. The ex- EastEnders favourite triumphed due to his portrayal in the comedy show, and upon collecting the award, Dyer joked: "The acting was so bad it was funny". Overcome with emotion, Danny expressed getting "choked up" whilst delivering his acceptance speech. Danny dedicated his win to writer Ryan Sampson with a cheeky nod, stating: "He's one of the greatest people ever to come out of Rotherham - not saying much. You won this for me mate." He continued with a heartfelt shout-out to his daughters, saying: "Girls - Sunni, Dani, I done it," but then broke protocol as he enthusiastically declared: "I f****** done it.", reports the Mirror . The 47 year old's choice words led to Alan Cumming announcing he was "asked to apologise" for Danny's language. Danny wasn't alone in bending the no-swearing rule, either. Sophie Wilan, during her victory speech for Best Scripted Comedy with Alma's Not Normal, exclaimed: "It's been s*** hot," She immediately recognised her blunder and clasped her hand over her mouth, yet her gaffe elicited laughter from the illustrious crowd who seemed charmed by her candidness. In other news, the BBC scooped up the sport Bafta TV award for its coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Meanwhile, host Alan Cumming couldn't resist probing Gavin and Stacey's Rob Brydon about the enigmatic fishing trip from the much-loved BBC series. The Welsh actor's character, Bryn West, along with his nephew Jason, are persistently quizzed by their family in the sitcom regarding a mysterious fishing trip where they went camping together, but both characters have vowed to keep it a secret. Alan turned to Rob, who was seated amongst his Gavin And Stacey co-stars in the Bafta audience, to inquire about the trip. "Please answer it for us now. Uncle Bryn, what actually happened on that camping trip? ," he implored. Brydon started to respond, saying "I never talk" before Alan interrupted him and swiftly moved on to the next nomination, prompting a wave of applause and laughter at the event. "Oh, sorry, Rob. We've got to go straight on with the next award. We'll pick it up at next year's Bafta," Alan quipped. The evening also saw other winners, including The Jury: Murder Trial, which clinched the Best Reality programme award, edging out The Traitors for the accolade. Upon receiving the award, producer Ed Kellie remarked: "This proves that reality TV can actually be about something."
