South African dasher David Miller has gone past 4,500 runs in the One Day International (ODI) cricket. The milestone was achieved during SA's opener in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against Afghanistan at the National Stadium in Karachi. Miller required just 10 runs to achieve the landmark when he came to bat. He has been an important member of South Africa's white-ball teams for over a decade. Miller made his ODI debut in 2010 and has since featured in 176 ODIs. He crossed the 4,500-run mark in his 152nd innings, becoming the 13th South African batter to do so. Over his career, Miller has averaged over 41 at a strike rate of over 100. His tally includes 24 fifties besides six tons. His highest score in this format is a stunning 139. As per ESPNcricinfo, Miller is now among just the two batters with a 40-plus average and 100-plus strike rate in ODI cricket (minimum 4,500 runs). He has joined his former South African teammate AB de Villiers, who averaged 53.50 and had a strike rate of 101.09. He finished with 9,577 ODI runs. Even though Miller has been dismissed for zero on nine occasions in ODIs, his performance is still consistent and remarkable. A large chunk of Miller's ODI runs, more than 4,350, have come while batting at number five or lower. Only Jonty Rhodes (4,754) has scored more ODI runs for South Africa in these positions. While Miller has mostly batted lower down the order, he has opened once and batted five times at number four in ODIs. Miller is featuring in his third Champions Trophy campaign, having participated in the 2013 and 2017 editions. Playing his eighth game at the event, he has raced past 210 runs at 41-plus. The tally includes two fifties.
