Delhi Capitals chased down the target of 12 runs in four balls on Wednesday (April 16) to win the first super over of IPL 2025. In the match played against Punjab Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the home team restricted the Men in Pink for just 11 runs in the one-over face-off and then, thanks to KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, chased down the target with two balls to spare. The win over RR was DC’s fourth win in five super overs played so far in IPL history, and with that, the Delhi-based franchise broke Punjab Kings record of winning the most super overs in the world’s richest franchise cricket league. The Mohali-based franchise has three wins in four IPL super overs. The hero of DC’s win over RR on Wednesday was Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc. The legendary left-arm pacer first successfully defended nine runs in the final over of the run chase and then only conceded 11 runs in the super over. For his super show with the ball, he won the Player of the Match award. In the match, which Rajasthan Royals was winning for the majority of the second half, Starc dismissed Nitish Rana. The left-handed batter was trapped in front of the wickets by Starc on the fourth ball of the 18th over of the run chase. Rana top-scored for the Sanju Samson-led side in the match. After coming to bat at No. 4, he faced 28 balls and, with the help of six fours and two sixes, scored 51 runs. Apart from him, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal also scored 51 runs. The Mumbai-based cricketer, who was retained for Rs 18 crore by RR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions, added 61 runs for the first wicket with Sanju Samson (31 runs from 19 balls). Earlier in the first half, Abishek Porel top-scored for Axar Patel & Co. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter hammered 49 runs from 37 balls. He was ably supported by KL Rahul, who made 38 runs from 32 balls, and Axar smacked 34 runs from just 14 balls.
