Manchester United youngster Chido Obi "doesn't hold back" in first-team training sessions, according to Denmark's Under-21 boss, who has spoken to coaches at Carrington. Obi was promoted to the first-team set-up by Ruben Amorim last month and he has made a few promising appearances from the bench, despite being just 17. The youngster is a prolific goalscorer at academy level and came close to scoring his first senior goal against Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round. Since then, Obi has been named on the bench against Arsenal and he was given another chance to show what he can do against Leicester. United claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory against Leicester on Sunday evening, but the international break has commenced and Amorim's side will return to domestic action on April 1. Obi has been called up to Denmark's U21 side for the next fortnight and their manager, Steffen Højer, has discussed the young striker's qualities in an interview with Danish outlet Bold . "I've spoken to an assistant coach from United who says that Chido doesn't hold back when they train over there," said Højer. "I'm looking forward to seeing him, and I'm also looking forward to giving him the peace he needs now, to just come in and see what this is all about." Højer was asked what United had told him about Obi and responded: "It's really just mostly about the training part, as I can follow the jump-in and so on. "But they have been satisfied with what they have seen in training. He has some unique qualities. He has a wild physique and is a strong finisher, so they have seen that there as well. "That is why they give him those minutes. Of course there is also a reason why he also gets the minutes at United, because it is not their best year. "But on the other hand, it also shows something that they still dare to put a 17-year-old Dane on the United team in the situation they are in now. After all, they have done that a few times now." Obi signed his professional contract with United when he celebrated his 17th birthday in November, which was already agreed when he signed from Arsenal in the summer. Denmark-born Obi joined Arsenal from Danish team KB in 2022. He has been a youth international for Denmark and England, representing the former in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualification campaign last year, and is also eligible to represent Nigeria.
