Denver Broncos taking calls for No. 20 pick: NFL Draft 2025 news, rumors
@Source: cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Denver Broncos are reportedly open to trading their No. 20 pick and move back Thursday night during the first round of the NFL Draft, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Broncos have fielded calls in recent days from teams interested in potentially moving up to Denver’s No. 20 selection, per sources,” Schefter wrote Thursday morning on the social media platform X. “The Broncos currently hold the draft slot in front of Pittsburgh’s No. 21.”
This could open the door for the Browns or New York Giants to move up and ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers to take a falling quarterback, whether that is Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart or Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. All three teams have been linked to potentially taking a quarterback, as have the New Orleans Saints since Derek Carr’s shoulder injury leaves him unavailable for an indefinite period of time.
However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted Thursday morning Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said Carr’s uncertain status will not impact his draft plans.
That could boost the Broncos’ trade value.
The Steelers have been linked to quarterbacks, specifically Sanders. New ESPN analyst Peter Schrager projected them to take the Colorado quarterback in his latest mock draft. Some have been critical of Deion Sanders’ son, but the Steelers and coach Mike Tomlin are among those who like the promising prospect.
“There’s a toughness there that doesn’t get talked about enough,” Tomlin said, as reported by PennLive. “There’s a competitive spirit there that doesn’t get talked about enough. I know he’s very talented and has made a lot of plays for his university and his team. But the intangible qualities displayed on tape were impressive to me.”
There is plenty to unpack for the Browns as draft night unfolds. They are expected to take Sanders’ teammate, Colorado two-way standout Travis Hunter, after the Tennessee Titans take Miami quarterback Cam Ward at No. 1. The New York Giants follow at No. 3 and are expected to draft Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.
Meanwhile, the Browns and Giants are expected to take Colorado two-way standout Travis Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with the second and third picks Thursday night after the Tennessee Titans select Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
A less-than-appealing quarterback class beyond is why the Browns and Giants are leaning toward the consensus top two players than drafting for need early Thursday night.
Giants were ‘most aggressive’ in trading up to No. 1
While the Titans asserted their desire to remain in the top spot and draft Ward, some teams still tried to sway them into making a deal. The Giants topped that list, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. She wrote New York made multiple attempts to seal a deal.
“They were the most aggressive of the teams that reached out to new Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi,” she reported.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday the Titans were not going to make a trade, adding one of his sources told him, “They never opened the door,” on requests.
Titans adding a target for Ward?
Tennessee signed receiver Tyler Lockett on Wednesday night, according to Schefter, for a one year and $4 million with the potential to earn $6 million. The Seattle Seahawks released Lockett last month after a decade with the team.
He will join Calvin Ridley and Van Jefferson in Tennessee’s receiving corps.
