WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Detroit Lions added their fifth international market to their global marketing rights.
They added Brazil to their portfolio, which already included Austria, Canada, Germany and Switzerland.
Now, for those asking what this means. The Lions are on the forefront of building the NFL’s “fan engagement, events, commercial opportunities and NFL Flag development” in the countries they hold the rights.
It also increases the likelihood that the Lions would travel to one of those countries for an international game, sooner than later.
“The expansion of the Global Markets Program in 2025 reflects the NFL’s continued focus to grow the game and connect with fans on a global scale,” Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s executive vice president of club business and international markets, said. “With more clubs entering the program and existing clubs adding to their global rights, and as the program expands to new markets, we are seeing strong momentum and impact in growing fandom worldwide together.”

The NFL will have seven international games in 2025, with the Lions once again left off that slate. Their time is coming, though, with their last trip overseas coming back in 2015 when they lost 45-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
That was quite the franchise-shifting loss, too, with the Lions firing general manager Martin Mayhew and team president Tom Lewand after that blowout loss.
There will be three games in London, with one in Brazil, Germany, Spain and Ireland.
The Los Angeles Chargers will open the year from Brazil, while the Indianapolis Colts will host the game from Germany -- a popular perceived destination for Detroit’s next international trip. The Miami Dolphins will host a game from Spain and the Pittsburgh Steelers will call Ireland home for their trip overseas.
And London will have games featuring the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars as home teams.
