Dewald Brevis On AB De Villiers Comparisons: 'I Aim To Be My Own...'

Dewald Brevis thrilled fans with his inventive batting and powerful hitting, scoring a rapid 57 off just 23 balls. This marked his second half-century of the season and helped Chennai Super Kings secure a decisive victory against table-toppers Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
After the match, the young South African batsman addressed the frequent comparisons between him and AB De Villiers, one of the most successful Proteas batters in IPL history. Brevis expressed his desire to be recognized for his unique batting style.
Brevis’ fifty, which earned him the Player of the Match award, propelled Chennai Super Kings to a substantial score of 230, leading to an 83-run triumph over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
During the post-match presentation, Brevis shared his thoughts on the comparison to the RCB legend, stating that while it is an honor, he strives to carve out his own identity as a player.
“I am happy and enjoying the game, having fun on the field. I need to stay true to myself. I’ve always been the kid who enjoys the moment while playing. I kept reminding myself, ‘it’s cool, not warm (conditions)’. I needed to play an innings like that, and I’m very grateful for it. I must keep playing, as everyone has advised me. AB is someone I admire; he has helped me improve my game, but I aim to be my own player. It’s an honor to be compared to AB de Villiers,” said Brevis.
Signed as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh towards the end of the tournament, Brevis has played only six games this season, yet he managed to score 225 runs at a strike rate of 180.
While Brevis excelled with the bat, Noor Ahmad reclaimed the Purple Cap by taking three wickets on the day, increasing his season tally to 24 wickets and dismantling GT’s middle and lower order.
The Afghan bowler reflected on the ups and downs of cricket, expressing optimism for CSK to return stronger next season after finishing last in this edition.
“Great way to finish the tournament. We did not have a good season, but it was great to end it like this. (On which today’s wickets he liked the most) The third one – it was good. It was a bit faster, and I enjoyed that. Everyone gave their best; we tried our hardest, and it’s cricket, ups and downs happen. Hopefully, we will come back stronger,” said Noor.
