'Dhoni Still Got It At 43': Why Chennai Super Kings Fans Still Believe In Thala Phenomenon
@Source: news18.com
Dhoni was once again in the thick of things when Chennai Super Kings needed to chase down a tricky target, however, this time the captain of CSK along with Shivam Dube, ensured there was no drama in the tail end of the match. Rishabh Pant returned to form with a 49-ball 63 to guide Lucknow Super Giants to 166 for 7. CSK openers Shaik Rasheed (27) and Rachin Ravindra (37) provided a decent start but as the night progressed, the Men in Yellow found themselves struggling at 96 for 4 in under 13 overs. But Dube (43*) and Dhoni (26) stitched together a match-winning stand of 57 runs for the sixth wicket to bring victory home, thereby breaking their 5-match losing streak in IPL 2025. This was CSK’s second win in seven contests but that did not stop the stans from gushing over Dhoni and understandably so. Underarm Run Out Wicketkeeper-batter Dhoni produced a freak run out seemingly out of nowhere when LSG’s Abdul Samad and Rishabh Pant scrambled for a single on a wide delivery bowled by Matheesha Pathirana during the final over of Lucknow’s innings. Upon seeing Samad sprinting towards the non-striker’s end, Dhoni underarmed the throw over the batter’s head and it was a bulls’s eye. Samad was well short of his crease and Dhoni had a big smile on his face. Coming in to bat when Chennai needed 52 off 30, Dhoni crafted a masterful and a brisk 26 in just 11 deliveries. The veteran smashed four boundaries and a one-handed maximum to bring down the target to single digits on the last over of the match which CSK chased down with three deliveries to spare. Player Of The Match Dhoni’s cameo of 26 earned him the Player of the Match, which surprised the CSK skipper as he wondered if he was even worthy of the award that he had last won in 2019. Dhoni also become the oldest player in the history of IPL to win a POTM at 43-years-old. “Even today I was like, ‘Why are they giving me the award?’ I feel Noor bowled really well. With the new ball and when Noor and Jaddu bowled four-five overs together – these were the two phases where we did really well,” Dhoni said. ? The Easy Target Of IPL Trolls 200 Dismissals The LSG Vs CSK encounter also marked 200 dismissals for Dhoni in the Indian Premier League. The stand-in skipper brought up the milestone as he effected a stumping to dismiss Ayush Badoni off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. MS has 46 stumpings to his name with 150 catches behind the stumps. What Did Social Media Say? Whether you are a CSK fan or sat in rival team’s camp, it’s always heartening to watch Dhoni’s efforts yielding results in the favour of Chennai. The team hasn’t shown the best of intents in their previous contests as the top order has failed to offload pressure in run chases. Additionally, Dhoni has been criticised for toying around with the batting order, furthering the frustration for CSK fans. Coming from five-consecutive losses, the Monday encounter against LSG instilled a new hope among fans and having Dhoni rise up to the occasion was a double win for the loyalists. “This beautiful team could go on to lose every single game for the next two consecutive years and I’ll still support them the same way I did when they won two consecutive years in 2010 and 11 and the same way I did when they disappeared for two consecutive years in 2016 and 17,” wrote a fan on ‘X’. 55 off 5 overs need when MS Dhoni arrived to the crease with Shivam Dube who looked like a batter who doesn't know how to pick a bat. & then MSD scored sensational 25(11)* at age of 43 and rescued CSK. After seven contests in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League, Dhoni has 130 runs to his name at an average of 43.33 and strike rate 158.54. CSK have two wins in their bag and are currently placed last in the standings with four points.
