The governing body made it clear that Chelle does not have an X (formerly Twitter) account, urging the public to be cautious of misinformation spreading from fraudulent profiles.
NFF shut down rumours, issue official statement
In a post on social media, the NFF categorically stated that Chelle has no presence on X and that any account claiming to be him is fake.
The official statement emphasized that his only legitimate social media platform is Instagram, under the verified handle [@eric_chelle].
This warning comes amid rising concerns over misinformation, particularly in the wake of Nigeria’s recent victory in the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Several fake accounts posing as Chelle have surfaced, spreading misleading content and fueling speculation among fans.
The NFF’s statement also advised supporters to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unverified sources, telling fans to “Exercise caution and be wary of scams or any misleading information.”
Chelle focused on Super Eagles’ World Cup mission
Despite the online distractions, Eric Chelle remains focused on Nigeria’s World Cup qualification campaign.
The Malian-born coach recently led the Super Eagles to a commanding 2-0 victory over Rwanda, a crucial result that ended a frustrating winless streak in the qualifiers.
With momentum on their side, Chelle’s team is now preparing for their next test against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday 25th of March.
Nigeria will be hoping to climb above their current fourth position in the group of six teams when they play bottom side Zimbabwe, hoping to move closer to current table-toppers South Africa.
