In a heartfelt tribute, singer-songwriter and public servant Dingdong Avanzado honored the memory of OPM icon Hajji Alejandro, who recently passed away after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.“Over the years, you have been a teammate, a mentor, and a dear friend,” Avanzado wrote, capturing the many dimensions of their bond that extended far beyond the stage.Their friendship was one built not just on music but on life, filled with moments of laughter, learning, and camaraderie. From basketball courts and golf courses to card tables and quiet conversations, theirs was a friendship grounded in shared experiences and mutual respect.“What I truly appreciate,” Avanzado continued, “are the life lessons and wisdom that you have imparted to me.”He credited Hajji for not only being a pillar in the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) industry but also for being a generous soul who willingly shared his insights — lessons that transcended showbiz and left a lasting impact on those around him.Avanzado’s message also extended deep sympathies to Hajji’s family: children Rachel Alejandro, Barni, Ali; Lola Nena; and Nino, and the entire Alejandro clan. He acknowledged Hajji’s invaluable contributions to Philippine music — his voice, his charisma, and his timeless songs that helped define an era of OPM greatness.“Rest now, Tito Hajji. We will always remember you fondly,” Avanzado concluded, sealing his tribute with both affection and reverence.
