The low-cost, charter-flight company, Volotea will begin operating a direct service between Granada Airport and Santander from December the 5th. The trial period from the 18th of July to the 30th of August is going so well that the company decided to make this a permanent route come December. The flights will be twice a week to this city on the north coast of Spain, on Tuesdays and Fridays, as well as over Christmas, on Saturdays too. Should you fancy spending Christmas in Santander, you can fly out on the 23rd of December at 09.00h arriving 10.50h and return on the 3rd of January departing 10.55h for 141 euros return. Tickets are available already. Santander’s international airport bears the name of Spain’s famous golf player, Seve Ballesteros. in 2018, for example, it handled 1,103,353 passengers on 11,258 flights in and out of the airport. Santander is also a major port and has a direct ferry connection with Plymouth in the UK, provided by Brittany Ferries and takes approximately 20 hours to make the crossing. Granada has nine national or internal destinations: Asturias, Barcelona, Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Melilla, Palma de Mallorca, Santander and Tenerife Norte. However, at present it only has one international connection, which is with Amsterdam. By comparison, Almería Airport, which is about the same size (Granada ranks 22 and Almería amongst airports in Spain) they have 16 international connections during high season: Birmingham, Bratislava, Bristol, Brno, Brussels, Budapest, Leeds, London, Luxembourg, Manchester, Porto, Prague, Rotterdam, Southend. Even Jerez de la Frontera (ranked 25th) has 16 connections to foreign destinations such as Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover or Knock.
