DISGRACED rugby star Stuart Hogg has been sidelined with a major injury.
The former Scotland captain, 32, ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing for Montpellier at the weekend.
Hogg limped off during the second half of his side's home win against Perpignan in the French Top 14.
He underwent surgery in France this morning and is expected to be out of action for six to nine months.
Hogg has been left having to use crutches to walk and shared photos on social media from his stint in hospital.
He wrote on Instagram: "The joys of the beautiful game. Not how I envisaged my season in Montpellier ending.
"To say I’m gutted would be an understatement. Injuries are part of rugby, and unfortunately, I’ve managed to pick up a bad one. Ruptured Achilles.
"Operation was a successful one this morning in Saint Jean Hospital. Time to rest up before cracking on with the rehab.
"My aim now is to support the team in whatever way I can and remain as positive and optimistic. I will be back from this.
"In the meantime, Allez Montpellier."
Hogg pleaded guilty last November to verbally abusing and bombarding his estranged wife Gillian with distressing texts, while also tracking her on an app.
The fullback, from Melrose, Scottish Borders, was sentenced to a year’s supervision in January.
Hogg made a surprise return from retirement last summer and he is contracted to Montpellier until 2027.
The ex-Scotland international and Gillian are in the process of selling their five-bedroom family home where he subjected her to domestic abuse.
The £850,000 property was put on the market earlier this month after buying it for nearly £700k three years ago.
