Do YOU have a daughter-in-law from hell? It's nothing compared to the bitter feuds, court battles and tell-all interviews plaguing families with famous sons and their diva wives! Nicola Peltz and Meghan Markle are among those who fell out with their in-laws READ MORE: Inside story of devastating rift that ruined Beckham's 50th birthday. Friends tell KATIE HIND that Brooklyn snubbed ALL the celebrations and is no longer speaking to the family By MARIA CHIORANDO FOR MAILONLINE Published: 09:15 BST, 10 May 2025 | Updated: 09:29 BST, 10 May 2025 Gaining a daughter-in-law is so often a cause for celebration as parents delight in their son or daughter finding love and perhaps choosing to start a family of their own one day. But family relationships are complicated and sadly, in many cases, parents can struggle to get along with the woman their child has chosen as their partner. And beneath the glamorous, squeaky-clean images they curate for the public, celebrities are no exception. Such a rift has been rumoured between the Beckhams and their daughter-in-law, Nicola Peltz, after she and their eldest daughter appeared not to be present at David Beckham's 50th birthday celebrations this month. But she's not the only famous daughter-in-law rumoured to have fallen out with the parents of their partner. From toxic affairs to explosive lawsuits and good old-fashioned rows, plenty of famous families are rumoured to have fallen out thanks to a daughter-in-law - sometimes through no fault of their own. Nicola Peltz and the Beckhams Nicola Peltz is pictured with Victoria Beckham, while the two were said to be getting on, before their most recent rumoured feud The once famously tight-knit Beckham clan has reportedly been rocked by rumours of a rift between David and Victoria and their daughter-in-law, Nicola Peltz. Rumours came to a head last week when the Beckhams' eldest son Brooklyn, 26, and his wife Nicola, 30, failed to attend David's 50th birthday dinner at Core by Clare Smyth in Notting Hill. The bash was attended by A-list stars including Tom Cruise while David and Victoria's children Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13, all attended, though Brooklyn was notably absent. It was claimed Brooklyn and Nicola pulled out of attending the Met Gala with the intention of attending David's birthday party, but were no shows at both events. Brooklyn was reportedly planning to attend David's party, but felt too uncomfortable to come after he felt Nicola was being blamed for the rift with his family. Claims that Brooklyn and Nicola were rebuffed when they asked David and Victoria to celebrate David's birthday privately were also said to be untrue. Sources close to Nicola told TMZ they wanted 'to get together privately' to avoid Romeo's girlfriend Kim Turnbull as the couple are said to 'have a problem' with her. Brooklyn also missed out on David's early celebrations in Miami last month as well as parties in the Cotswolds, France and London this week. Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz were no-shows at any of David's birthday events last week despite allegedly pulling out of the Met Gala to attend (pictured at the gala in 2022) David Beckham is allegedly 'desperate to make amends with his son Brooklyn as he fears history is repeating itself' following his bitter fall out with his father Ted in 2005 THE WAY THEY WERE: The Beckham family is famously close - and Brooklyn enjoyed a good relationship with his parents before the rumoured feud (pictured with mother Victoria in 2019) Following the birthday party snub, it was revealed Brooklyn also declined an invitation by his father to join him and his brothers on a 'boys' fishing trip to celebrate his 50th. The Mail revealed David invited Brooklyn on a short break six months ago when he began planning, yet his son failed to go despite arriving in the UK the day he went with Romeo and Cruz. Sources have suggested that Brooklyn's decision was influenced by his American actress wife Nicola. 'Brooklyn was asked to join them ages ago,' one claimed. 'Then he came to London in time but he didn't go. Once again David made the best of things and had a great time with Cruz and Romeo.' Brooklyn didn't even post about his father's milestone birthday on social media, despite the former England captain sharing a throwback image of himself alongside a seven-year-old Brooklyn, with a caption that read: '@brooklynbeckham I love you.' While the original feud is said started around the time of Brooklyn and Nicola's 2022 nuptials, it was reported that the couple made up with the rest of the family following that fall out. While some have suggested the reported feud is down to Kim, others believe the rift is to do with Brooklyn's wife Nicola. A friend told MailOnline this week: 'This is nothing to do with Kim and is all about Nicola. All David and Victoria want is their son back – and they will be there to welcome him any time.' Meghan Markle and King Charles When he first met Meghan Markle (pictured, left) the then-Prince Charles was said to have warmed to her immediately When Meghan Markle walked down the aisle to marry Prince Harry in 2018 with millions of eyes around the world upon her, she was accompanied not by her father, Thomas Markle, but by her father-in-law, now King Charles. The striking and powerful image appeared to project closeness and solidarity between the pair as the royal stepped in at the last minute to support Meghan following a heartbreaking rift with her real father just days before the wedding. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has previously revealed she asked her 'very charming' father-in-law to step in because she felt she 'had lost' her father thanks to a cash-for-pictures controversy and reports of his ill health. And the Duchess's warm feelings for Charles appeared to be reciprocated. Royal author Christopher Andersen wrote in his 2022 book The King: The Life of Charles III that the monarch 'warmed to Meghan immediately' and considered her 'completely charming, absolutely delightful upon their first meeting. However, tensions were already reportedly brewing behind the scenes which culminated in Meghan and Harry's sensational stepping down as senior royals in 2020 to move across the point in a move now widely dubbed 'Megxit'. Reflecting on her time in The Firm, Meghan has hinted that she struggled to fit in from the beginning - particularly with some members of her husband's family. Speaking in the Sussexes' incendiary 2022 documentary, released just months after Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth died, Meghan discussed her 'surprise' at how 'formal' the royal family behaves behind closed doors. Prince Harry (pictured with King Charles in 2019) said he wants to reconcile with his family She recalled her 'jarring' first meeting with the Prince and Princess of Wales in the grounds of Kensington Palace, in which she claimed she and her in-laws had different ways of behaving. She said: 'Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot. Like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger I didn't realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. 'I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward facing way of being and then you close the door and think "OK we can relax now". But that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.' The same Netflix series saw Meghan come under fire for 'mocking' the late Queen and the pomp and ceremony of the royal family when she demonstrated how she performed her first curtsy for the late monarch - using exaggerated body language while chuckling to herself. In another explosive move after leaving the royal family, Meghan and Harry sat down with American broadcaster Oprah Winfrey to make divisive claims about treatment they allegedly received as senior members of the Firm. One such claim, which reverberated around the world, was that two senior members of the royal family asked a then-pregnant Meghan about the colour of Archie's skin before he was born. She told the veteran TV presenter that 'concerns' had been raised over how dark his skin might be. She did not name the members of the royal family who allegedly raised such concerns. In the same interview, Meghan said she'd experienced suicidal thoughts while living as a senior member of the royal family and had been barred from accessing the help she needed. Following the interview, Buckingham Palace released a statement on behalf of the Queen, reading: 'The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. 'The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. 'Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.' After leaving the UK for sunnier shores, Meghan has rarely ventured back, with her last trip in September 2022, when the couple were in the country for the WellChild Awards on September 8 - the same day Queen Elizabeth II died. Harry and Meghan ended up extending their stay, so they could attend the former monarch's funeral on September 19. While Prince Harry has since made some fleeting visits to the UK, including a 24-hour trip to attend his father's Coronation in 2023, Meghan has not joined him. There seems to be little hope of healing the rift any time soon: during a recent interview with the BBC, in which he discussed losing his battle over taxpayer-funded police bodyguards, Prince Harry confirmed that he does not speak to his family. He told the BBC in California that he wants 'reconciliation' with the royal family but was at present cut off from his father. 'He won't speak to me because of this security stuff,' the prince said, adding he didn't know how long the King had left to live. There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,' he said, but he had now 'forgiven' them. Blac Chyna and Kris Jenner Blac Chyna (who now goes by her birth name, Angela White) is pictured with her ex Rob Kardashian's mother Kris Jenner - before they had an epic fall out Blac Chyna was first linked to the Kardashians in early 2016, after she posted a now-deleted picture of herself enveloped in the tattooed arms of an unidentified man on Instagram. Fans correctly guessed that the mystery man was Rob Kardashian - the brother of Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe, and half brother of Kylie and Kendall. While Blac (real name Angela White) used to be friends with Kim, it's believed their relationship soured when it emerged that Kylie was dating Chyna's ex Tyga. It's reported that the relationship between Chyna and Rob's family was tense at first, but that the Kardashians did their best to cultivate a bond with their brother's girlfriend. A source speaking to People magazine in March 2016 said that Kris was the couple's biggest supporter. They said: '[She is] actually super stoked on them together now. She feels like Rob was pulled out of his depression phase because of her.' By May that year, despite only being together for a few months, the couple were not only engaged, but expecting a child together. Their daughter, Dream Renée, was born in November that year, but the couple's happiness would be short-lived - it was later alleged that they had a violent altercation in December. According to Kris, the situation left Rob 'hysterically crying'. While on Piers Morgan Uncensored in February, she has revealed while that she remains in touch with some members of the famous family; Rob and Chyna seen May 2016 The couple appeared to be on-again and off-again until that July, when Rob posted three naked images of Chyna online, accusing her of infidelity and substance abuse. Despite being granted a temporary restraining order against Rob that month, by September that year, the two had agreed to share joint custody of their daughter Dream. However, that month, Rob and sister Kylie would go on to file a lawsuit against Blac Chyna. He sued her for battery, assault and vandalism. He claimed she tried to choke him with an iPhone cord during a heated row in December 2016. In their complaint, Rob and Kylie alleged that they had 'endured several months of injuries' after Chyna's 'deliberate attempt to extort the Kardashian family for her own monetary gains'. In addition, the complaint alleged that Chyna's choice to have a relationship and child with Rob was 'nothing short of an outright fraud to shake down the Kardashian family'. It also called her a stripper, claiming she had 'created a reputation as a money-hungry, shameless pseudo-celebrity'. Chyna (pictured with Rob) accused the Kardashians of plotting to cancel her hit reality show Rob & Chyna In response, Blac Chyna countersued, accusing Rob of verbally and physically abusing her, and damaging her brand. Rob's sisters were also named in the suit (though Kim was later dropped from the suit) in which she asked for some $108 million in damages. She claimed that as a result of sharing the nude photos, and the Kardashian's influence, her reality show Rob & Chyna was cancelled after one season. In May 2022, she lost the suit, and was awarded nothing in damages following a civil trial. During the trial, Kris accused Blac of 'tried to murder' Rob - pointing a gun at him. Chyna said the incident had been a 'joke', and that the firearm was not loaded. By 2024, Chyna had completed 16 months of sobriety, and reverted to her birth name of Angela White. She added that she was no longer feuding with Rob, as the pair will be 'family for life' because they share a daughter. Speaking earlier this year, she noted she is on friendly terms with Kim and Khloe Kardashian as well as Rob, and close to momager Kris Jenner in particular. 'I speak to Kim. Me and Rob, we are like this now,' she said, while appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored in February, crossing her fingers after naming her ex and baby daddy. 'Thank God.' Rebekah Vardy and Lisa and Phil Vardy Rebekah Vardy's (pictured) in laws did not attend her lavish Cheshire wedding to England striker Jamie Vardy - neither did her own mother and step father Footballer's wife Rebekah Vardy's tense relationship with her in laws has long been documented - and dates back to before she tied the knot with Jamie Vardy in 2016. The England striker's parents, Lisa and Phil Vardy, eschewed the Cheshire wedding (as did the bride's mother and stepfather). Lisa and her husband Phil, who had raised the 29-year-old footballer since he was a baby, had vowed to stay away from the ceremony following a bitter bust-up some 18 months earlier over Rebekah. Ahead of the wedding, Lisa said: ‘I'll never say anything about my son, good or bad. I'm not bothered. I get up, go to work and look after my family. I'll not go to the fancy wedding.' Although Mrs Vardy has never explained why the couple fell out with their son, her husband said the row had been going on ever since Rebekah 'came on the scene'. He added: ‘I don't have anything directly to do with my son any more. It's a shame and very sad,' he said. The footballer’s maternal grandfather, Gerald Clewes had said previously that it was 'that woman' who had come between the footballer and his parents. Sarah Ferguson and Queen Elizabeth II Fergie enjoyed a good relationship with Queen Elizabeth II throughout her marriage to Prince Andrew, but they fell out after photos were published showing her frolicking in the south of France with her financial advisor John Bryan (Prince Andrew; Sarah Ferguson; and Queen Elizabeth II are seen in London in 1986) Prince Andrew's ex-wife Sarah Ferguson is said to have enjoyed a good relationship with Queen Elizabeth in the final years of the monarch's life, but this wasn't always the case. The Duchess of York and Andrew had known each other since they were children but only started dating in 1985 before tying the knot in July 1986. It's believed that at first, she bonded with her parents in-law, the Queen and Prince Philip, over their shared interest in horses and carriage driving. Sarah gave birth to the couple's two daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in 1988 and 1990. But in 1991, the couple split after Andrew's naval career meant they spent large chunks of time apart. Their divorce would be finalised in 1996. In a 2010 interview with US TV host Ernie Manouse, Sarah revealed how difficult the relationship had been, saying: 'My deal was that I was marrying my man, who happened to be a prince and a naval officer. John Bryan, who was photographed with Sarah Ferguson in the south of France, is seen in London in 1992 'But what I got was not the man, I got the palace and didn’t get him... and the courtiers told me I had to go to Buckingham Palace and he had to go to sea. For our marriage, I saw him 40 days a year.' Initially, after the split, the Royal Family still invited Fergie to holiday with them in Balmoral, and she joined them in Scotland in 1992. But the cordial relations were not to last: while she was at Balmoral, the press published the now-infamous photos of Sarah with American financial advisor John Bryan while they were staying at a secluded private villa in the South of France in August 1992. The images showed John kissing Sarah's foot, as well as the pair frolicking in the pool. Looking back on the embarrassing incident in Channel 5 documentary Fergie vs Diana: Royal Wives at War, royal expert Jennie Bond said: 'There she was, with all the members of the royal family, who traditionally have all the papers laid out on the breakfast table. 'The scene when she went into the dining room was horrendous because there were her brothers-in-law turning over the pages and staring at her naked top half of her body. 'It was excruciatingly embarrassing and she went to the Queen, and the Queen was livid. She was absolutely furious with Sarah.' Even more livid was Prince Philip, who decided not to see Sarah, who he is said to have described as 'beyond the pale'. John Bryan (pictured) said in 2022 that the toe kissing was part of a game him and Sarah (pictured in 1992) were playing with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie Speaking to MailOnline in 2022, John Bryan said: 'We were in a private villa with seven acres of land surrounding us to ensure our absolute privacy. The girls [Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie] were tiny, just four and two. We were out by the pool and I was practising swimming with the children. 'Yes, Sarah was topless, but this was the South of France for heaven's sake. And we were in private – or so we thought. We're with the kids, having a great time. We used to play fun games, make-believe games. 'On this day we were playing Cinderella and I said, "Look, let's kiss Mummy's toes". It was part of the game. I did it first and then I think one of the girls, probably Beatrice, did it. It was totally innocent; a beautiful family moment of love.' Despite finalising their divorce in 1996, Sarah and Andrew remained close friends. At the time, she was reportedly $4million in debt to Coutts & Co bank. According to bestselling author Tina Brown, she mishandled the terms of her divorce with 'the same unerring naivety with which she mishandled everything else'. In a past interview, Sarah revealed that when she met Queen Elizabeth to discuss the divorce, Her Majesty asked what she wanted from the settlement. 'Your friendship, ma'am,' Sarah recalled replying - an answer that surprised the Queen, as many expected her to demand a substantial payout. However, Sarah was not interested in battling the Royal Family or appearing overly greedy. The Queen provided her with a £350,000 settlement, £500,000 towards a house, and a £1.4million trust fund for Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Over time, Fergie managed to repair her fractured bond with her former mother-in-law and has since described her as more of a maternal figure than her own mother. Speaking to The Times in December last year, Fergie revealed the Queen had given her some excellent advice while on her deathbed: 'Sarah, remember that yourself is good enough.' Recalling the message, the Duchess of York said it makes her 'cry' to this day and added her former mother-in-law had been a strong support in difficult times of her life, including when she was battling postnatal depression. Natasha Lever and Rhodri Giggs Celebrity Big Brother star Natasha hit headlines in 2011 when it emerged she'd had an eight-year affair with Ryan Giggs while married to his brother Rhodri (pictured with Rhodri) For the parents of Ryan and Rhodri Giggs, Natasha Lever's involvement with the family turned into their worst nightmare after she married one brother and had an eight-year affair with the other. Natasha, who now works as a beautician, met Ryan Giggs first - but began dating his brother Rhodri two months later. Despite going on to marry Rhodri, Natasha continued seeing Ryan - who was also married to Stacey Cook - in secret. The affair continued for the best part of a decade and throughout Stacey's two pregnancies with Ryan's children. They carried out illicit liaisons in hotel rooms and vacant properties Natasha had access to through her job as an estate agent. It was also alleged that, during the affair, Natasha fell pregnant with Ryan's child, before she terminated the pregnancy. When the explosive affair came to light in 2011, Stacey initially forgave his infidelities - which also included a fling with Big Brother star Imogen Thomas. However the marriage eventually broke down in 2017. While Natasha's affair with her brother-in-law destroyed her marriage, it also ruptured other relationships within the Giggs family - although, of course, Ryan himself is at the centre of the animosity. Speaking to MailOnline shortly after news of the affair broke, the brothers' father Danny Wilson said of Ryan: 'The rat. I can't understand how anyone could do that to his brother. 'I read about it in a Sunday paper, jumped in my car and zoomed up the M4 towards Manchester. God knows what I'd have done to him but it wouldn't have been nice. 'I was pulled over for speeding twice and the second time I said to the copper, "I'm Ryan Giggs' dad" and he could see that I was mad with him. He said, "I won't give you a ticket, but just take five minutes'' break then turn round and go back home", which I did.' Over a decade on, and the pair don't talk, but Wilson hopes of the family becoming close again. 'I don't think he'll listen to me after all these years, but I hope he becomes more humble,' he said. 'I hope he learns some lessons. He must be unhappy to do what he's doing. I hope he apologises to his brother and makes up with him. Life is too short.' However Danny's relationship with his other son is also fractured after Rhodri publicly dragged his father for also being unfaithful in marriage. Rhodri previously said of Danny: 'He was just as bad so he can't say anything [about Ryan's affair].' However, speaking to MailOnline in 2023, Danny revealed he and Rhodri had repaired their relationship and now frequently play golf together. Ryan's wife Stacey, who divorced him in 2017, forgave his initial infidelities (pictured in 2010) which also included a high-profile fling with Big Brother star Imogen Thomas Rhodri Giggs' ex Natasha Lever is ENGAGED to married fireman who left his wife and three kids for her - 13 years after her shock affair with her husband's brother Ryan In April 2021, Rhodri made claims that Natasha had flings with 10 footballers. He also mocked his brother's affairs in a TV commercial for bookmakers Paddy Power. Speaking to a The Central Club podcast in January last year, Rhodri said another reason why the brothers fell out was Ryan accused him of selling stories about him. But Rhodri hit back, saying he could destroy his brother's reputation for good by revealing sordid details about Ryan, but chose not to. He said: 'If I was going to sell some stories I'd have done it last year and buried this p****, buried him. There's some stories I know that could have buried him, so if I wanted to sell stories I'd do it, but why would I want to do that? Why? I wouldn't. 'I'm not that bitter and not that twisted, but he needs to be careful, because I could have. A lot of people could have, but they didn't, and it's all from him making the choices he's made, no one else. Rhodri continued: 'You can't go through life and this nice, innocent family man when you're banging everything in sight.'How old is he, 48, 49? He needs to grow the f**k up.'' Natasha appeared on the 2012 series of Celebrity Big Brother after her fling with ex-Wales boss Ryan, 50, was made public. She now works as a beautician following her dabble in reality TV. Last September, she tied the knot with fireman Haroon Headley - who left the wife of his three kids to be with her. The proposal came just 12 months after the couple set up home together in Greater Manchester following Haroon's decision to leave his wife of 20 years for the reality star.
