Donncha O'Callaghan chats life after 2FM and staying in contact with former co-hosts

Donncha O’Callaghan shocked listeners last summer when he announced he would be hanging up his mic and leaving 2FM, but just because he left his job doesn't mean life has slowed down... in fact, quite the contrary. From keeping his career going by starting a podcast and writing another book, to ensuring his fitness stays in check and being a present dad to four children, Donncha has his work cut out for him! The former rugby player shares children, Sophie, 14, Anna, 12, Robin, 10, and Jake, nine, with his wife, Jenny, whom he has been married to since 2009. Speaking with VIP Magazine, Donncha revealed the best part about life since leaving 2FM, saying: 'Life’s been good... I started wearing glasses two years into Breakfast because I thought at the age of 46, my eyesight was going a little bit, and what I actually realized it was just fatigue.' 'But after two weeks of finishing Breakfast, I didn’t need to wear glasses anymore. My eyeballs didn’t feel like they were burning as much. I definitely miss the team we had, it was quite remarkable. And of course, I would see Doireann and Carl. We don’t really lose those kind of people. You just communicate with them differently,' he explained. Donncha joked that instead of spending time in the mornings slagging each other, they have now taken to WhatsApp! He added that although he does miss seeing them every day, 'it was time to move on' from breakfast radio. The rugby star previously spoke about leaving radio with the Irish Independent, admitting that although he knows he was lucky to get the gig, he's 'glad' that he's 'out the other side of it.' 'I genuinely loved it. It was such an education. I remember having a row with a rugby friend of mine and I was making the example that it was all matches and no training. You could practice all your ins and outs, but there is nothing like the red light of live, a caller dropping or making changes on the fly,' he said. We have no doubt he is enjoying spending more time with Jenny and the kids now, though... we might even get another children's book soon too!
