'Don’t Think About What Is Not In My Hands': Yuzvendra Chahal On Prospects Of Making India Comeback

The out-of-favour Indian spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal opened up on the prospects of returning to the Indian team. The 34-year-old last played for the national team in August 2023 and has struggled to make it to the international scene despite having good displays in the Indian Premier League.
He finished the 2022 season as the purple cap holder with 27 wickets and took 21 and 18 wickets respectively in the next two seasons, indicating a downward trajectory in his bowling. Still, he made the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 where India went on to win the title. But Chahal did not get to play a single game in the tournament.
During his international career, his partnership with Kuldeep Yadav was a highlight in the Indian bowling attack and the two were a fierce duo during their time together. But Chahal now finds himself outside the international scene while Kuldeep has established himself as a top-tier bowler in the white-ball setup.
“I have loved bowling with Kuldeep. We enjoy a great bonding, on and off the field. It shows,” Chahal shared in an interview with the Hindustan Times.
“It was fun bowling with him because we have a similar approach to bowling. Both of us love to attack. It was also partnership bowling. When one of us would go for runs, the other would make it tighter from the other end. We always trusted each other,” he added.
With Chahal not being considered in India’s white-ball plans, he does not intend on letting this side-track his preparations for the upcoming season in the IPL. He also hailed Kuldeep as the best wrist-spinner in the world with his brilliant performances of late.
“I don’t think about what is not in my hands,” he shared.
“Right now, he is the No.1 wrist spinner in the world. It shows in the way he is bowling both in IPL and international cricket,” Chahal added.
After his three-year stint with the Rajasthan Royals, he was not retained by the franchise. But he was picked up by the Punjab Kings for a whopping Rs 18 crore and will look to once again show his class in the upcoming season under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.
Punjab Kings begin their campaign with an away game against Gujarat Titans on March 25 (Tuesday).
