Syracuse, N.Y. — Jeremiah Huff, an 11-year-old boy killed in a double homicide in Syracuse, was a vibrant, kind, warm and adventurous young boy who lived life with a heart full of curiosity and a spirit of determination, according to his obituary.
Jeremiah was killed by his father, David M. Huff, 43, of Syracuse, on Monday night in a home at 128 Roney Road, Syracuse police said. Huff also killed his girlfriend, Yeraldith Tschudy, 32, of Rochester, police said.
Jeremiah’s obituary, published today, said the young boy had a natural enthusiasm for the world around him, especially for the outdoors. He loved spending time in nature, exploring his passion for rocks, fishing and camping.
On Monday, 24 county buildings will be lit in green in memory of Jeremiah, according to a news release from Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon. He said this was a “small gesture” to honor the child’s life.
The sixth grader was an honor roll student at Gillette Road Middle School, said his mother, Samantha Gallup Peltier.
He also loved sports and played basketball, baseball and soccer. He was also a skilled skateboarder, who took lessons at Black Mamba Skate Park, according to his obituary.
In addition to his many interests, Jeremiah was a loving pet owner who cared for multiple animals. He also loved music, especially Metallica, Eminem and Pantera.
Jeremiah was remembered for his bright smile, his boundless energy, and his genuine love for life, his obituary said.
His obituary said he had a love for talking and often started conversations with his favorite phrase, “Can I tell you something?” His curiosity about the world and people made him a joy to be around, it said.
“We will miss him every day,” Peltier said. “My life is empty without him.”
Calling hours for Jeremiah Huff will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday with a funeral service to follow at Farone & Son Funeral Home in Liverpool.
