Doune cricketers set to no longer be 'caught short' after toilet deal struck
@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
Members of Doune and Dunblane Cricket Club will be breathing a sigh of relief after a long-standing arrangement over use of toilet facilities was restored following a wrangle with Stirling Council. For years, players at the weekends needing to use the facilities were able to jump into the toilets at the next-door Doune Primary and Nursery thanks to a friendly local janitor. But that arrangement came under jeopardy in August last year when council chiefs became aware of it and urged the club to get in touch with its bookings team if it wanted to use the school. The row had been rumbled on to earlier this month when the club issued a desperate plea for support ahead of the new season kicking off for fresh talks over restoring the toilet plans. Without that, an official with the club told the Observer that a lot of the club's younger players in particular would be forced to use the toilets at the Co-Op supermarket - requiring the club to shell out on resources including responsible adults. But after talks between the club, councillors from the area and the local authority - it was announced the previous set-up would be put back in place. In a post on their social media account yesterday, Doune and Dunblane CC wrote: "Great news! Stirling Council contacted us yesterday, confirming our continued access to the toilets at Doune Primary School. "Thank you to everyone involved in resolving this!" Among the councillors involved in the discussions was Trossachs and Teith Conservative councillor Martin Earl, who said: "Since amalgamating the club has gone from strength to strength, attracting new members to their youth and senior squads resulting in more training and match events at their Doune home field being needed. "I am delighted that a sensible way forward is being discussed that will enable toilet access, facilitate club activities and demonstrates the council’s support." Those comments were echoed by Dunblane councillor Alasdair Tollemache. He said: “The Dunblane and Doune Cricket Club play an invaluable role in encouraging young people to participate in sport. "Access to a toilet is an important factor during the club’s training sessions. I am very pleased to see that following discussions a constructive solution will be found and thanks to everyone involved in making this happen. "As a long time cricket enthusiast I am pleased to see that the game is thriving within the Stirling Council area." In a statement to the Observer, a Stirling Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm that following close engagement with the Cricket Club, a resolution has been reached and the arrangement of mutual access to toilet facilities will continue.”
