Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson is still adamant of a top six finish despite being placed last on the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific points table.
The Drua is scheduled to play seven matches, and winning three of those matches should place them in contention.
That starts on Saturday night against the Highlanders at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin. Jackson said there are seven matches but the next three are important.
“What I mean is that if we perform well in the next three,” he told SUNsports yesterday.
“We’re definitely taking one game at a time because we need a win against the Highlanders, who are a very, very good team and very hard-working. Then, we’ve got a bit of a home run of teams that are all around about where we are.”
Jackson added that the result in last weekend’s match was unfortunately not great but it is still far from over.
“In terms of the other results, we’re certainly by no means out of this competition. That’s important for the nation and our team to understand that. And that’s something we’ve put to them on Monday,” he said.
“We want them to be relaxed, want them to enjoy what they’re doing at the moment, which is understandable. The last two years have been fantastic, making the playoffs but this year it’s being down to six.
“It feels like there’s just a little bit of tension because I think there was a good expectation of the public for us to go well.
“It’s disappointing for us that we haven’t played as well as we’d like to. So we just want to try and enjoy the way we want to play.”
