Dudley man, 22, in court after dad-of-six killed in M6 crash

A Black Country man has appeared in court after a father-of-six died following a crash on the M6. Emergency services were called to the scene in Stoke-on-Trent at 9.55pm on February 27 to reports of a collision involving a Toyota Avensis and a HGV on the southbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16. The HGV driver, Cliff Tamou, who was out of the vehicle as it had broken down, died at the scene. Ghulam Haider, who was driving the Toyota, was taken to hospital with leg and facial injuries. He appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Saturday, March 8, and was remanded into custody. Haider was due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on April 7. In a tribute released through the force, they said: “Cliff Tamou, 58, who moved to the UK over 30 years ago from New Zealand and settled in the Wigan area, was a devoted husband, father to six children and five grandchildren. “He was a lorry driver for many years and loved playing, refereeing and coaching rugby. “The family have asked for their privacy to be respected in this very sad time.”
