Former Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham retired in March after spending 15 seasons in the NFL. That transition is still ongoing, as he continues to recover from a torn triceps injury, leading him to keep working out as if he were still playing.
Appearing on “The Up and Adams” show with Kay Adams, Graham admitted there is still a part of him that isn’t fully retired.
“I’m 90% retired,” Graham told Adams. “The other 10% is how much I want to continue to train the way I’m training because I’m trying to look good. Training to train for a game is different. I haven’t really changed that yet. I just want to go out there and speed it up to where I want to look good and make sure that I’m staying fit. I’m still rehabbing my arm and making sure that when I do retire, I’m staying in the habit of that because a lot of guys tell me when they leave, you’ve got to make sure you stay in the habit of working out and doing what you do.”
Graham added that the only person in the Eagles organization who could lure him out of retirement would be “the one with the money,” possibly referring to owner Jeffrey Lurie or general manager Howie Roseman.
“If he doesn’t feel that way, nothing is happening,” Graham said. “It’s just lip service.”
Graham also reminisced about Super Bowl LIX and the Eagles’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs, admitting that he enjoyed the blowout, especially when the score was 34-0.
“I was laughing,” Graham said. “We were on the sideline trying to hold it in. We felt good going into that game because we had a great week of practice. We believed that we were going to win that game because of how we showed it every day. When it started, that’s why we tried to stay low-level. The Chiefs were blocking field goals and doing a lot of stuff. We were like, ‘Man, if we just take it to them, we feel like we could really do some things.’ A lot of people give them a lot of respect and get a little nervous sometimes when they play them. You’ve got to play with the same aggression that they are playing.”
