EastEnders fans are in for a treat as Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden, is set to return next week after his time in the mental health unit following a heartbreaking suicide attempt. However, it won't be smooth sailing for him. In other news, viewers will remember the devastating explosion at The Queen Vic back in February that claimed the lives of Martin Fowler (James Bye) and Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman). Since then, the pub has been left in ruins, leaving the Knight and Carter families without a home and staying with Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy). Next week brings some positive news for Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) as the insurance company agrees to pay out, meaning the beloved pub can finally be rebuilt. But her joy is short-lived when her domineering mother, Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), takes charge. Linda vents her frustrations to her friend Denise Fox (Diane Parish), and it's social media influencer Kim (Tameka Empson) who suggests she should distract herself by jumping back into the dating scene. Despite initially dismissing Kim's advice, Linda soon changes her mind and focuses on setting up her son Johnny (Charlie Suff) with Felix Baker (Matthew James Morrison), reports Plymouth Live . However, Linda quickly reconsiders her decision to move on and be happy, allowing Kim to find her a date. By the end of the week, Linda meets Jeff (Alex Dillon) at Harry's Barn and tries to relax and engage in casual conversation. Will the popular landlady finally find love again? Elsewhere, Phil has returned home and is appreciative of his family's support and that of his friend Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), but he prefers to keep his stay at the psychiatric hospital private. In a café scene, Nigel makes some errors, leading Phil to reveal to an exasperated Bernie Taylor (Claire Norris) that Nigel is unwell, which results in Nigel retorting sharply at his friend. Nigel, who has been diagnosed with dementia, feels deeply sorry for disclosing Phil's secret, but Phil attempts to put on a brave face. George Knight (Colin Salmon) wants to be there for Phil, but they both struggle to express their feelings. Later, former professional boxer George invites Phil to spar with him at the boxing gym, which helps them both to open up about their mental health issues. After a successful session, George visits Nigel and proposes a new regular club at the gym called 'Box and Bantz' for people over 40. Meanwhile, Walford's teenagers are causing trouble and end up detained at the police station. At the start of the week, Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) finds it hard to cope with grief after Martin's sudden death, so Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) suggests that she, Lily, and Amy Branning (Ellie Dadd) skip school and go on an adventure. They are caught by Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy), but Avani persuades her mother to overlook their mischief as she tries to lift Lily's spirits following her father's death. However, their joy is short-lived when they encounter Marvin, the boy who sold Avani vapes last year, offering them drugs. Despite Avani's refusal, the police arrive, realise the girls are skipping school and spot a bag of pills that Marvin has dropped near Avani's feet. The girls are taken to the police station, where Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) separately come to collect Amy and Lily. However, neither Priya nor Ravi respond to calls about Avani, and she is horrified when the officers explain they need to strip search her as they suspect she may be concealing more drugs. This leads to a distressing week for Avani, causing great concern among her family. Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) begins to suspect something is seriously wrong with his daughter when he finds her unconscious in the playground and starts looking for answers. Meanwhile in Walford, Gina (Francesca Henry) and Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) approach Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) for bar work at Harry's Barn, but with only one job available, they're told they'll have to compete for the position. The sisters turn up for their trial only to find out it will be Harry (Elijah Holloway), not Nicola, testing them, and he takes great pleasure in teasing Gina. EastEnders airs Monday - Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer
