Actress Laila Rouass has finally opened up about her separation from snooker icon Ronnie O'Sullivan. The pair, who were a fixture for a decade, went their separate ways in 2024. Rumours that the 'Footballer's Wives' star and the snooker champion had permanently ended their on-off 13-year relationship began circulating in September. At the Mariposa Ball and Awards, the 49 year old 'EastEnders' actress spoke about her current romantic status, stating: "I am going to keep that under wraps for now until there is something to speak about." The charity behind the event, Mariposa International, was established by Andy Clark-Coates and his wife Zoe Clark-Coates MBE to offer support to families affected by baby loss. This glamorous ball unites stars and supporters alike to honour and remember those who have suffered unimaginable losses during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy. The evening featured impactful discussions on baby loss and infertility, led by hosts Briony May Williams from The Great British Bake Off and Sky Sports presenter James Green. A highlight of the night was Laila's moving speech, which resonated with many due to her personal experience with baby loss. "If you can give time and money to causes you believe in, it creates a support system for those who need it," the former EastEnders said. Laila's personal tragedy – the loss of her new-born niece, her brother's daughter, within just a week of birth – has deeply influenced her understanding of the significance of such events. "It can feel very lonely. But tonight is about reminding people that they're not alone," she expressed. For the east London-born actress, who had the honour of presenting the Employer of the Year award, showing support for those grieving means taking practical steps to help. "When my niece passed away, I was at the hospital every day. Emotional and practical support is perfect - cooking or cleaning, so they have a clean home to come back to. A week after my niece died, I went with my brother to return all the items he had purchased, like prams, cots and sterilisers. It was so sad." At 53, she also spoke fervently about the need to break the silence on baby loss and infertility. "The more we talk about it, the more normal it becomes - because it is normal. I have friends who have had babies through surrogacy, IVF, adoption. We have to talk about all of it, so people feel supported in their journey." The significance of the Mariposa Ball transcends just an event; it represents a beacon of hope and transformation for countless individuals. Mariposa International has been a pillar for numerous bereaved families, providing counselling services, advocacy and striving relentlessly for change in policies.
