Sanjay Manjrekar has been consistently praising batters who have been scoring runs at high strike-rates in the ongoing season of IPL. The former India cricketer turned commentator earlier this month also shared his list of top 10 batters this season with over 200 runs at “great strike-rates” which included the likes of Priyansh Arya, Nicholas Pooran, Shreyas Iyer Abhishek Sharma, Phil Salt, Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, Heinrich Klassen, Jos Buttler and K L Rahul. T20 cricket is as much about SR as runs. Here is the list that really matters. Top 10 batters this IPL with over 200 runs at great SR. Yet another instance of new age batters out performing earlier generation big name batters. T20s is their game! — Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) April 27, 2025 Virat Kohli’s brother Vikas has criticised Manjrekar for his views on 200-plus strike-rates. “Mr sanjay manjrekar; Career odi strike rate: 64:31; Easy to talk about 200 plus strike rates,” Vikas posted on Threads. Incidentally, Virat Kohli has been piling on the runs this IPL and is among the top contenders to win the Orange Cap. He has thus far managed 443 runs from 10 innings at a strike-rate of 138.87 to be placed second in the list of top run-getters so far. Kohli had also taken an indirect shot at the critics of his strike-rates after hitting a match-winning half-century against Delhi Capitals. During a conversation with the broadcasters, Kohli explained his mindset when chasing totals while extolling the importance of rotating strikes and taking the game deep. “(I focus on) Total on the board, conditions, who are bowlers due to bowl, the bowlers that are going to be hard to get away. I try and make sure my singles and doubles don’t stop and then you keep getting the odd boundary in between. The game never gets stagnant. That’s always been my focus, to keep working on rotating strike, singles and doubles. People are forgetting the importance of stitching partnerships and or going deep into the innings in T20 cricket,” he said. “I think this year you are seeing you can’t just come out and tee off from ball one. You need have professionalism to read the situation and try get into a position where you can start dominating the bowlers and for that you need to stitch partnerships, and it won’t come easy if on a slow pitch you don’t know how to rotate the strike,” he added.
