Front Page August 8, 2025 ECGC opens new flour mill THE EXPANSION of a new flour mill at the Eastern Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC) signals more than just operational advancement; it is also a symbol of food security, regional development, and economic resilience. That was the summation of J. Robert Cato, Chief Executive Officer of ECGC speaking at the official opening on Thursday, July 31, 2025, of the new state of the art facility. THE NEW ECGC Flour Mill building. Cato said the multi-storage facility is more than steel, concrete, machinery and building equipment; it is the embodiment of an almost five-decade journey which has been defined by resilience and adaptation. Noting that the flour mill has been around since 1977, Cato noted that since then, they have expanded into drinks, beverages, different types of feeds, and flours with products being exported as far as the UK, the USA, Tortola, Antigua, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Grenada, and Saint Kitts. “We have expanded once again…today marks a moment of profound significance for ECGC and the region…this is a testament to perseverance, progress and shared purpose…,” Cato noted, while adding that the company gets a tremendous amount of support from the government. “…we are grateful. Every bit of equipment that you see in this building was brought into St Vincent duty free, because we benefit from special treatment given to those who operate in the agricultural sector,” he told guests at the ceremony. “This flour mill signals more than operational advancement. It’s a symbol of what’s possible when a team is united by purpose…,” Cato said, while adding that the new EC$ 10 million mill is a signal of regional development and economic resilience.
