The Babonneau senior cricket team stormed into the finals of the 2025 Prime Minister’s T20 Cup with a high-scoring victory over South Castries.
The two heavyweight teams combined for over 400 runs in their thrilling encounter at the Gros Islet Mini Stadium on Tuesday.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, opener and eventual Player of the Match, Dane Edward, delivered a breathtaking innings of 114 off just 57 deliveries, dismantling the South Castries bowling attack. His explosive knock featured fifteen sixes and two fours. He received valuable support from Qwaine Henry (25) and Larry Edward (21), helping Babonneau post a formidable total of 239 in their 20 overs.
For South Castries to chase down the target, they needed a vintage Johnson Charles masterclass. However, it was not to be, as the legendary West Indies batsman was dismissed for just 10 runs by Larry Edward, much to his frustration.
Tonius Simon provided some resistance with a solid 46, but the required run rate remained out of reach for South Castries. They ultimately fell short by 36 runs.
On a night dominated by batting, Larry Edward’s spell of 2 wickets for 35 runs in four overs was a commendable effort. Babonneau will await the winner of Thursday night’s clash between Central Castries and Choisuel to see who they will face in Sunday’s final.
